I personally think the XF80 is the best macro lens I have ever owned (and I've had a lot of them over the years). I am 100% confident in using it for product, object and even portrait work.

But then I had a thought.

Hmmm. I wonder what it would look like using the GFX50R and the Laowa 17mm UWA. It focuses down to a ridiculously close distance (18cms) and that includes the 15cms between the front element and the sensor!

This is 20 captures, cropped to 6x7 (about 80% of the frame).

I know which one I think I am going to use! I can't wait for the summer and bugs and bees on plants. If I can conquer the manual focus I think I will get some wild macro shots.

BTW, this is what the set up looked like and you can see how close I am to the board. Not all the lighting I used is turned on in the photograph.

Fun with, AND behind the scenes!

OK so this is the obligatory cat photo...whippets are after all the cats of the dog world

One of our local camera chains is showing every sign of turning up its toes and had a very compelling deal on the 90 Fujicron. It's a big lump.

Low light, high ISO. This bloke was eating his carrot which is his dessert and he's inordinately fond of carrots.

    Hi there Pieter,

yes, these shots are from de Tata Steel Works and yes shot from over the fence standing on that 'sand ridge' running along side the fence.
Wouldn't it be great to have access to the Works for just one day ?

BTW have you ever been to the Dudok house ?

    Best regards.

No I haven't (didn't even know about it), so I started googling. Maybe the coming summer (after the current crisis is behind us) I go and take a look and maybe combine it with a steam train ride across the site.

No, TV monitor. It was a handheld shot. Same plant shot from different angle, on a tripod, and placed closer to the TV monitor.

The photos brought a smile to my face. I am a very senior citizen, and grew up with the monopoly game. When the grandkids visited our grand parents at the NJ shore, if a 2 or 3 day Nor'easter came we would have monopoly games that lasted days. However the fun part is that in the US to properties are named after actual streets in Atlantic City NJ. I assume your game is modeled after streets in England somewhere?
    Thanks for the nostalgia.

Another walk around the lonely farmers market at Steamboat Landing on Cayuga Inlet. Fuji GFX 50R with GF 50/3.5 R. The market will open for business this weekend, but vendors are limited to those selling fresh produce. No crafts, artists, or restaurant vendors allowed yet and customers must obey strict social distance regulations.

I dusted off the Cambo Actus and mounted a Pentax A-645 35/3.5 lens. Fuji GFX 50R mounted to the back side of the Actus G. Couple of sample shots that are shifted two shot images stitched in LR.

Abandoned. On our daily walk with the dogs we pass this local institution. It's been there for years, providing a version of fine dining for this neighbourhood for at least 20 years and I'm sure more. It's been closed since the restrictions came in. One wonders whether it will survive.

...a few steps further on our walk. I last had coffee and toasties here with friends the day before the restrictions came in. The usually bustling shop was quiet and the staff were scared and surly. Now it's the coffee window with the door firmly shut and the hand sanitiser un-needed.

    Social distance...

The local park is uncharacteristically still bustling in the early evening. The locals seem to get stir crazy and head for the park. The rules allow you to socialise with the people you live with, or one other person but you must maintain social distance with people not in your bubble - 1.5 metres and no touching.

Glad to see someone is taking the rules seriously!

Today we went for a walk along Cascadilla Creek in downtown Ithaca, NY. I set the GFX 50R to 1:1 aspect ratio shooting both raw and B/W jpeg. Lens was the 50/3.5. Some images are a bit shaky because I was shooting ISO 100 (forgot to reset to auto ISO). B&W are OOC jpegs.

Sign in front of the "DuckLady" house. She feeds them all year and they cross here to her house.

    Very large old sycamores here.
