The road less traveled...

You come alone, said the voice.

It was some time, since I had heard the voice. It was much older, softer.
We had both grown older. Much older.

I am never alone, I replied.
In health or sickness. In happiness or otherwise.
No, I am never alone, I said.

I could almost see the face turn and look around me.
I don't see anyone with you..this time.

No?, I said.
Maybe you want to see with your eyes?

A laugh. With a cough.
True, my friend, said the voice. True.
You are never alone.

But here?
Madness or courage? asked the voice.

Challenge..I replied.

Challenge. Outside the comfort zone. A place very less traveled.

That is quite a road. Mostly built on what looks like the material from landslides.

Folks, thank you all so very much :salute:

G, I am neither. A poet or a photog.
Just a traveler...

And can only paraphrase Robert Frost:

The roads are narrow, rocky and deep
And I have miles to go before I sleep
And I have miles to go before I sleep.

Best.

Rayyan,

You are a poet as well as a photographer. :D

I crossed the bridge. It creaked. It swung.
But held fast.

I had been hasty. Should have acclimatized my body to the altitude longer.
But that was the past. Done. Gone.

Altitude sickness was creeping up on me. I knew it. Experienced it.
Other side of the mountain.

What do you choose?, the voice whispered.
Nothing to choose, I replied.
Only one way to go. Up.

I hate bridges.

I am the traveler, I am the photog.

This one was obviously taken with some help.

Rayyan could not survive here.

How to get there?

Just follow the river, said the voice.

There you shall find the fountainhead.

Oh, you're all three. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. :D

Onwards! Ever onwards!

Thanks friends :salute:

Still searching, whispered the voice.
Yes.

They said, across the mountain, it lies, I said. More a question than a statement.

Which mountain? There are many mountains, replied the voice.

This one....

I don’t know, said the voice softly. I detected a sadness in it.
No!, you don’t know?, I asked with a slightly raised voice.

Don’t shout child, I live in silence, the voice very softly and gently.

But you should know, I was frustrated. All over the world I crossed mountains, valleys and deserts.

You must know!, tears in my eyes.

Child, the voice was hardly audible; nobody knows. You might have already found it! Without realizing it.

How, why, where, when...stop talking in riddles, please.

You see traveler, almost weary the voice, if anyone knew for sure they had found it, it wouldn’t..., coughs, gasps for breadth...

What, I asked impatiently?

If anyone knew they had found it traveler, said the voice fading into the distance;
It would not be called Shangri-La!

The voice went silent.

I stared at the mountain peak.
Started towards it.

Thank you for being with me on this journey.
Ayesha.
