My electricity was out today so I was bored and decided to do something I never do, test lenses.
Tested the 24L II against the Zeiss ZE 21 and Canon 35L. I was amazed to see both the 24 and 35L's were significantly sharper than the Zeiss at F/2.8. Even at F/5.6 they both were slightly sharper.
I used liveview and only looked at the center sharpness.
BTW my 35L was slightly better than the already amazing 24L II
