thanks.

Don't turn down a 6mf if you can find one just because it gets bad press due to the frameline markings. I have one and can tell you that the marks aren't that bad. No worse than the many AF indicators for today's DSLR's. The MF also has all the newest features of the later 6 models. I also have the 35mm pan kit and it's nice to sometimes load up a 35mm cassette and use the camera in that way. Just sayin', Bob.

interesting, though i still wish there were a ton of parts lying around and more repair specialists like is true for hasselblad, then you could just swap out the finder :)

btw, how's the spot meter?

The 6 in all it's incarnations uses a center weighted averaging meter and it seems to hit the right exposure much more often than the spot meter in the Mamiya 7. Of course you need to adjust for back lighting and other conditions as needed by either moving aperture/shutter/ or ideally just turn the exposure compensation dial. I just wanted to inform you that the finder wasn't a big problem. That one reviewer guy that speaks harshly against it is VERY opinionated with some things and he just attacks cameras and lenses when he finds the slightest thing that upsets him. I have to tell you that, because of the 35mm option, I wouldn't trade my MF for a regular 6. Like I said, it's refreshing to be able to use 2 completely different film sizes in the camera. Good luck looking, and you're right to remember that the winder is the most important thing to have right when buying. Bob.

thanks for your insight.

tbh, the more i think about it, i might just go for the 7II. they're so much easier to find and seem to be cheaper, in some cases at least.
