EVERYONE BEWARE: Someone is definitely trying to hack accounts

Exercise EXTRA caution when buying & selling should something seem just "too good to be true"!!

My account had five wrong attempts this evening from some odd 117.166.XXX.XXX IP address (China somewhere...)

The bots are out, my friends!!

How do you know that these attempts were made? Do you get an email?

Yup I got the same email. In addition to strong passwords, I would recommend not re-using passwords between different sites.

The site admins should just block all traffic from that class B if there is not legit traffic coming from there

Just as an FYI, we have a string of BOT attacks going on from a variety of locations including China, Russia, South America and the UAE. We've done a block ban of IP's to limit it, but this may mean certain legitimate users get blocked -- if that happens, feel free to email us through the contact us section of the site and we'll open their specific IP.

This is extremely sad and irritating. I'm curious what these criminals would want with my account? Where's the value?

I know its fantasy....but it would be great if we could send a "zap" right back at those creeps and fry their computer. I'm sure it would work in the movies

BTW, they've tried to get into accounts I have with other sites (not necessarily photo-related). Like I said before, sad and irritating.

It is clearly a machine hack, too many hits too fast to be a human typing. I suspect they are looking at all sites that have B&S sections for high dollar items. When they get through on an identity, they'll list an item in the B&S using your name and hope that somebody sends them money fir it thinking it's you.

why would anyone go through all this (perfect fake) to sell make-money-from your camera schemes...

FYI - got this as GetDPI notification of PM sent.

It was a real PM from the forum, but the (likely hijacked) account that sent it had probably been deleted by the moderator before you had a chance to see it. I got the same PM, and I'm sure other did too.

All those suspicious log-in attempts must have gotten into at least one account, which they used to send the stupid PM. I'm sure the link in that message leads to some nefarious website, but I certainly won't be clicking on it to find out.

Yeah, I got it too. For the avoidance of doubt: DO NOT LOG IN USING THE LINK IN THE EMAIL or you risk having your GetDPI account and maybe others stolen.

I don't think they have our emails. We checked the box that we do not mind if members send us emails.
I am going to uncheck my preferences now.
That is just what I think happened ..... maybe I am wrong.

Was right annoyed that all you others were getting them, and I had somehow missed out, now I am happy.
Deleted it of course. No other action required, correct?
