MacBook Pro screen question

If I am using the computer and it gets dark not only does the keyboard light up but at the same time the screen also gets dimmer. I know this can be changed in system preferences. How does this "feature" affect photo editing?

When you calibrate your screen, you pick a brightness level to stick with. On my 17" MacBook Pro, it's the center position on the brightness scale.

Anything different (dimmed, etc) will change the way you're looking at photos and should not be trusted for editing purposes.

While we're on the topic, any change in angle of the screen will also throw editing off, so for critical work, stick to a desktop.
