Well at least I'm not the only one. I experience this also on some car forums.

I have (had) the same problem on several sites.

"Fixed" it by setting the forum to a maximum of 5 posts per page.
Lot of flipping pages, but I can see the pics now ;-)

It isn't only limited to the ipad....with a very slow connection on a laptop/desktop the same problem exists when there is a ton of data on the page.

Interesting Terry I have never had this problem with my laptop, but I don't travel as much as you.

Interestingly, I've never noticed it on the iPAD . . . but I've often noticed it on the laptop.

Thanks Olliil, I just set mine for the same and hope that handles it. I don't mind flipping pages as its easier than booting desktop.

Yep, fixed it for me. i could see all the images in the Yosemite workshop threads without waiting to check the ones I missed on my desktop.

    Re: IPad Discussions

I agree about the wireless keyboard.

Thought I would mention this for wifi only Ipad owners. I got an email from Verizon yesterday about their Ipad/myfi bundle which most US folks have heard about. Interesting though that they offer several noncontractual deals, month to month, for those of us that already have wifi Ipads. If we didn't already have a great deal (free mobile hot spot with Palm Pre Plus for 2 yrs) it would interest us with 2 wifi Ipads though we have so many free wifi outlets in my area from DT area to coffee shops and restaurants to libraries to drs. offices and car service shops to retail stores and even our grocery store plus home/office that I'm rarely far from free wifi. We only use mobile for a few travel situations but occasionally have pulled it out for Maps instead of using our GPS.

Just thought I would mention it for those that wouldn't get the email. Bodes well it seems for us in US to get options of more than one carrier.

For those who like Lenswork, both the extended version and the print versions are now downloadable and viewable on the Ipad as pdfs. I also loaded into Dropbox for storage after I view the extended version. Thought I would try it to see how zi liked it.

Anyone else have AT&T unilaterally not renew your "unlimited for $29.95" plan? My last billing expired on 11/30 and they didn't charge my card to renew, so now I can only choose from their 'new' plan.

Well, I guess I won't give them any money until I need their service again.

    Re: IPad Discussions

I broke down a couple days ago and went to Best Buy and walked out with a 64GB Wifi iPad along with the camera connector kit and a cool case all with 18 months zero financing.

Since then I've loaded some music from iTunes and got around to loading images that I've worked up from the Jackson Hole trip. I like the ability to show the new images to potential customers without having to actually print them. Since having this and showing the images I've actually made a couple sales with orders for prints so the iPad is already paying for itself.

I've also downloaded/transferred by Kindle library and enjoy reading much more than on the old Toshiba. Speaking of the Toshiba tablet, I found I wasn't using it to the extent I thought I would thus the move to the iPad.

In the short period I've had the iPad I've found I like the ability to transfer images using iTunes much better than using the camera connector as I'm able to better set the folders. I've also made the mistake of loading a casino game which I like however Sandy likes it more and it's begun to be a struggle getting the iPad back. I've also loaded Google Earth which helps in trip planning for shoots such as the upcoming shoot at Shiprock.

I'm interested in the ability to extend my 17" Dell M6400 laptop monitor onto the iPad using Maxivista thus giving me the ability to move my tools from CS5 onto the screen similar to what I have in the studio.

I'm pleased with mixed feelings regarding the battery of the iPad. Pleased with the duration however I've mixed feelings as I found that in order to replace the battery it needs to be sent to Apple where they will issue a refurbished unit in exchange.

We'll be getting another iPad for Sandy shortly so I can have this one back.

    Re: IPad Discussions

Don, you could also consider moving your images from computer to Ipad via Dropbox. Its free for 2GB and you can either 'save' them IN Dropbox for offline viewing (which will retain your folder setup) or transfer to Photos. I just don't bother with Itunes except for upgrades now

I know you both will enjoy your Ipads. I bet, like me, you will find you're able to do a lot more than you ever expected with it and find uses that you hadn't imagined.

I had to buy a second Ipad for my husband too LOL. If you want to share apps you can by simply registering the second one in your name also, even using 2 computers, and when you go to app store on Ipad to dl the app on the second Ipad it will say you have already dled it and there will not be a second charge. Works the same for books on Kindle, Nook and Ibooks too if you use same registration.

    Hi Don
Don't worry too much about the battery - Apple have been doing these built in batteries for a year or so now, and although all of us were pretty wary when they first came out, I've yet to speak to anyone who's needed one changing. I was sceptical when they said it was to save space, but now I'm pretty convinced.

Check your email and see if they sent anything. I get an email each time mine renews. perhaps there was a glitch with your credit card?

    Mark,

This happened to me when my card expired. When I went to reregister the new card my unlimited service was no longer available and so I had to select the restricted service instead. However, I called customer service (wireless using the iPad cell number and then "other" to get to an agent). They reestablished my unlimited plan but you do have to call them. This will happen whenever you change the billing card in the future too.

I admit that I was initially furious ...

Unfortunately no. The card chosen from the beginning was good until 2014, and while they always sent an email about the monthly renewal this time they didn't. From now on I'll just activate it when I need it, and it will save me a bunch and drop ATT's revenue.

    Re: IPad Discussions

Thought I would mention this here. For most people in the US that would like to read dled books from their library's digital library on their Ipad it wae a real problem because of fhe Overdrive software that locked the Adobe DRM for most books. You can use Calibre but it gets more complicated and illegal for library books and of course the lending period is just 2 or 3 weeks. Not worth it to fiddle much IMO.

Yesterday on another forum I was made aware of the Bluefire Ipad and Iphone app which makes it pretty easy. You need an Adobe registration number and a library card. The directions within the app are a bit different than what I did. i hate dealing with Itunes so I use Dropbox a lot. I installed the app, authorized it with my Adobe registration, selected and dled a few books to s folder on my desktop from my state digital library. I then just dragged the files into my Dropbox folder and saw them almost instantaneously in my Ipad Dropbox folder. I touched the 'open with' icon and chose Bluefire and they opened there in correct format. Its a lot easier to do than write LOL.

Cool app; thanks. I don't know that I'll ever get past the shiny screen, but it's nice to have a way to get library books on my iPad.

My local library just added eBooks, and the only place you could read them was on a Sony reader or your computer. Maybe if the Kindle, Nook, and iPad ever get as popular as the Sony, they'll do something to make it easier.

Here's the link to Bluefire's method for transferring library books
    http://www.bluefirereader.com/help/libraryBooks.html

I hadn't read that I had to go through Adobe Digital Editions so I just dragged the acsm file into Dropbox, then opened the file from Dropbox on my Ipad. It is just that file, not the book, ie., not ePUB or PDF, but when you choose to have the file opened from Dropbox into Bluefire reader the book downloads in correct format. I'm glad I didn't read the 'how to' first as I would have had several extra steps. I'm assuming it works because the reader is an authorized app with Adobe

If you have kids, DON'T buy Angry Birds!

Wife is fine with her touch, and only once used my ipad to watch something on ABC's site via an app. It's the kids that are always wanting to use the ipad and play games, mainly Angry Birds

    I'd like to see a HP48GX app

    There's actually a very good HP48 emulator:

    http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/m48/id341541461?mt=8

It's $9.99 but there are also a couple of free ones too. Just search for "HP48".

Nice! Check out Pi Cubed if you haven't seen it yet.

I've had my 48GX for 18 years. My wife hates it. My kids are intrigued by RPN--which my wife hates--doesn't make any sense says she!

    Sounds very similar to here! (I still have: 32SII, 28S, 39GX, 48GX (2), 49G, 49G+).

For my everyday calc, I use the 17BII-Pro from RLM Tools:
    http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/17bii...338125516?mt=8

Another good one, like Pi Cubed, but more extensive, is Spacetime:
    http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/space...363453936?mt=8

Coming from when I used to code for programmable calculators, starting with the HP-25C, it's so amazing to see the power we now hold in our hands!

    I LOVE it!

    Re: IPad Discussions

To bring the library download conversation up to date I learn tonight that Overdrive released a new IPhone app this past week and an IPad app as well as an Android one follows soon. I had to try it out so installed the overdrive app. It requires an Adobe authorization also so obviously they have reached an agreement. I followed th steps, 'finding' my library, checking out an ebook and it loaded correctly, everything done on the IPad. When the IPad Overdrive app is released this will be the way to go. Right now the Iphone app isn't as good a display.

My only question is whether we can rely on you to notify us when they produce an iPad app.

    Re: IPad Discussions

Although the Overdrive screen is not good on the iPad, the app allows you to download a library book and then open it in the Bluefire Reader, so you end up with a good readable text. You're only in the Overdrive screens at first, and then transition to the library's website, and end up in Bluefire.

So, while I'll be looking forward to an iPad version, the current version is a step forward.

My wife is unabale to download the latest iPad upgrade onto her 64GB iPad, even though she spent 2 hours with Apple Customer Service trying.

She keeps getting a "Application timed out" message on her Dell desktop.

    She's somewhat miffed!

Most people didn't have any trouble with the upgrade. Those that did seemed to have problems like I did of very long backups prior to the actual upgrading. I learned that I needed to delete some apps (and reinstall after upgrading) that cache a lot of data like Zinio, news apps, etc. Then it went just fine. I updated my 64 and my husband's 32.

Is it ITunes that is timing out?

I believe that it is iTunes sync that times out.

Apple suggested she delete a bunch of her photos and retry, but we were trying to avoid that hassle.

Thanks so much for the help.

    Re: IPad Discussions

Odd thing today. I haven't sent a quick photo from the Photo app since 4.2 upgrade I don't think. Today I took a quick several shots and sent directly from the IPad. My friend said she couldn't open them. I tried a copy/paste but haven't heard back but when I again tried sending one directly from the event folder I got just an attachment icon and it said 'photo.RW2'. Hmmmmmmm???????? (next time I tried I saw only the embedded photo as was normal before). I shot RAW only with a G1, no +jpeg. Always before it
sent the embedded jpeg. Have things changed since 4.2.1??

Anyone tried sending anything quickie since the upgrade?

    Re: IPad Discussions

Happened again. If I can figure out how to embed this printscreen from Flickr you'll see first one was RAW only and second was + jpeg

    Hmmmmm by picnicmetoo, on Flickr

I have to assume something has changed since 4.2.1 upgrade. I've never seen the attachment before when emailing from Photo app, only the
embedded image. It's happened twice to me today.

Addendum: i've sent a few to myself to see what's happening. i'm now getting attachment icons almost all the time instead of seeing an embedded image as before. Sent the RAW + jpeg and the received email had embedded image and the file was 4.4mb I think. I sent the RAW only and it says 14.4mb AND when I touched attachment it gave me 3 choices to open the file: Filterstorm, Goodreader and Evernote. I'm not sure what to think LOL.

    Thanks Terry!

It sounds like this uses Apple capabilities to develop the RAW. It will be interesting to see if the end result is in the same league as aperture and iPhoto, and if the changes will transfer to desktop apps.

For those who like tabs in the browser, thought I'd mention Terra which is free. I have tried several, Atomic, etc, but usually came right back to Safari. This one is quite nice to use with the tabs. Terra in the app store.

Came across the Hypershop iPad hard drive, and thought people might be interested in it. Don't know anyone who uses one, but it sounds cool.

Stephen, those are very interesting. I've looked for something like that to use with Ipad and just yesterday read a bit about it on an Ipad forum but hadn't visited the site. I'm still not sure if I'm not as well off to juet buy more cards but its an option.

I use ProShow Producer to produce my DVDs and just found out that I can now download the DVD onto my iPad.

"High resolution QVGA 320x240 not so good?"

So you feel that a higher rez screen is necessary for the device that you use to store photos and transfer them to your iPad?

Thought I would mention for anyone interested in digital library loans having to use Overdrive that the Ipad version of the Overdrive app just came out. Tried it with direct redownload of book I have on loan and it works fine.

Thanks, Diane. Remember that when we talked about this app a while ago, I said I was sure you'd let us know when the iPad version was released. You did, and it works great.

What is your favorite news reader (RRS feeds)....I've been using Pulse, but I've gotten less enamored of it. Flipboard is very interesting but I like the layout of pulse better....more info at your fingertips to see what you want to read.

    Any other suggestions?

    Re: IPad Discussions

Just curious, has anyone scratched their screen yet? I thought I saw a youtube review where the guy tried to scratch his screen with a nail and it wouldn't scratch, but the back scratched easily. Reason I ask is because the case seems bulky and I would like to maybe use only a Vaja back cover.

I've had my ipad since they first came out and I've had it in either the Apple case or a Vaja case. Recently I purchased another Vaja case that is basically a back cover and a detachable front cover.

Vaja cases for itouch's throughout the house!

My iPad 2 arrived yesterday ... today I've had some time to get started with it.

An amazing piece of machinery. It's going to take me a while to unbend my mind.

yup, tiny scratch. I do take my iPad literally everywhere. Even though it's in a case (Beyzacases), something managed to put a scratch in the glass.

I don't like the magazine styled ones. But then again, I prefer non-HTML email as well.... My favorite is Newsrack.
