My 'marketing strategy' is still a work in progress but I decided a couple of weeks ago to bite the bullet and pay for a professional hosting site/web setup. I've been using free sites but none came up to my inner vision of how I wanted to present my photography.
I have set up a website (http://photographybyodille.photomerchant.net/) with PhotoMerchant - a hosting site dedicated to photographers (http://www.photomerchant.net/). I used one of their standard templates and found it easy to use and customise to the way I wanted it to look. I am quite pleased with it and I am still populating it with images but am like the look and style. I went for the middle option of just $19 per month and no contract, you just pay each month.
It offers what they term 'self-fulfillment' - you arrange all printing/postage etc; or 'direct fulfillment' - clients order using the sites prolabs and it is all handled for you and you just see the money in your bank. You can set the options (items available/prices; self or direct etc) separately for each of your galleries.
I have a Fine Art set which is under the self fulfillment mode - so I have full control, and all my other galleries are under the direct mode with my selected print and pricing options.
I also still have other shops - mainly because they offer items like framed and matted prints, greeting cards etc - at RedBubble (http://analog6.redbubble.com/), Fine Art America (http://odille-esmondemorgan.artistwebsites.com/), and ArtFlakes (http://www.artflakes.com/en/shop/photography-by-odille), plus a Calendar Shop at RedBubble (http://www.redbubble.com/people/analog6/shop/calendars).
I'd love to have your considered comments, folks. If you can see ways it can be improved or spot things that are jarring I really do want to know.
