Sync 2 external drives

Hi everyone -

Need some advice.

So, I keep all my photos on a portable external drive (LaCie 500GB) - this way I can edit on the road.

When I get home, I download all the photos onto my Drobo for back up.

What would you all recommend for automating this process and to keep my photo folder on both drives in sync. Also, I am using a Mac.

Thoughts?

Thank you

Obtain and learn to use the application named "ChronoSync" by Econ Technologies ... http://www.econtechnologies.com/
It's only $40 and worth every penny.

note: I have no personal connection with Econ Technologies. I have been using ChronoSync to keep my systems and archives sync'ed for years. Best software for this purpose I've ever seen. Only runs on Mac OS X.

Just to give you an alternative: I use Carbon Copy Cloner from http://www.bombich.com/ for this, and it works excellently. It even makes a bootable copy of my system disk, enabling me to run identical systems in different locations.

CCC is freeware, but they do accept donations.

Does CCC show you the changes that have occurred BEFORE it moves any files?

Thank you
No, and neither does SuperDuper! to the best of my knowledge.

This is why I continue to use ChronoSync over these others: you can tell it to analyze and display a backup operation for you to inspect and verify before committing to it.

I use and love SuperDuper! for backup, but thanks, Godfrey, for the recommendation of ChronoSync. I'll look at it for synchronizing some portables.

Just used ChronoSync and loved it. The Analyze feature is really key.

And when syncing my drive of photos -- it picked up a few folders I never transferred over! Great save.

I'm now using 2 different Drobos (a 4 bay and 5 bay S) and use the Drobo dashboard to set up automatic backups of not only the Drobos but a non-Drobo drive as well. Woks well so far to keep everything in sync.
