Advice needed on grayed-out setting in Phocus

I'm using Phocus on .dng files originating from my DMR. I've noticed that when adjusting Exposure (under the Adjustment tab) the Recovery, Shadow Fill and Clarity sliders are grayed-out. I'd love to be able to use these in Phocus as I've found similar sliders in Aperture to be invaluable when adjusting "hot" areas. Phocus is so far superior in terms of IQ to Aperture, so I'd appreciate any advice on how to unlock these settings.
