anyone using LR4 and DNG flat field correction?

sorry, moved this from the medium format section, maybe here is the right place to post this:

i was very excited that lr is now able to be my main/only tool for post processing my tech camera images with LCC shots, but i miss the ability to adjust the white balance based on the neutral shot.

i wrote this type of thread on lula forums as well a few days ago, but didn't get as much response as i wanted.

in phocus where i usually do the correction, the correction at first is applied to the neutral lcc shot - it turns into an evened magenta picture.
then those corrections can be applied to the desired image. BUT ALSO the corrected magenta lcc shot can be used to do a white balance on it and then turns into a grey card to set white balance for the real image - very very useful! only one additional step in postproduction

i hoped that the flat field plugin could do this automatically, even whitout setting the white balance manually (should be no problem).

but i can't even get a grey reference, because the correction file will not be corrected itself.
it isn't even possible to apply the correction file to itself by a duplicate - lr doesn't detect a "real world image" and therefore does nothing ...

how do you guys manage your lcc workflow?
does someone do it in lightroom?
how does it work in c1?

i would really love to do all my workflow in lr, but this would mean that i have to take another shot with grey card. or process the lcc file in phocus and transmit the values of the white balance to lr.

am i the only one who wants to use this plugin to lr4?
or am i the only one who wants to do a white balance with lcc in one step?

Re: anyone using LR4 and DNG flat field correction?

I am not qualified to discuss the flat field plugin in LR4.

I am so impressed with C1 and now C1 7 that LR seems to me to be degrading to the potential that are inherent in your files.
In C1 with an Rm3di and an IQ180, I shoot an lcc and use the C1 lcc tool to process that. White balance off of an lcc, while possible by dropping it before processing to lcc, is not really useful.
The result does not necessarily correspond to the white balance of the scene or the potential white-balance compromise that one might desire in a mixed-lighting situation.
If you really want an accurate white balance, then shoot a reference grey card in shade and in sun (there is of course a difference, and then process that image along with the desired image with the same lcc. Finally, dropper both sun and shade grey cards and take your pick. If you prefer a warm file, as Jack famously does , dropper the shade version of the grey card.
The reason that the lcc shot cannot be that good is that besides lens casts hich may be present, the color of the light falling on the lcc plate may be nothing like what is in the scene.

Agreed. White balance if done to a specific target reference should be done to a card in the scene, not plexi in front of the camera. Even assuming the plexi is perfectly neutral (which it likely isn't) it's still not going to be in the same light as the subject.

I heard a lot more about the LR4 plugin before C1v7 came along.

You're a Hassy back user right? C1 does not support any Hassy/Imacon digital backs.

Of course you could always upgrade to a Phase IQ back or Leaf Credo back and use your three HC lenses with an H2 or H4X. That would work with Capture One (along with many other advantages).
