    I think we all do here but there is no universal consensus whether a filter actually, in effect, protect a lens as to its function. (Ignoring special situations.) To use your example, the only way to keep a hammer pristine is not to use it. (Not a good analogy.)

    Not the same story? Users really don't care while for collectors the lens might be worthless. P.S. But even for a mint, never used lens, the resell value is generally just a fraction (less than 50%?) of the purchase price, especially if there is a new model or a new lens mount. Different story...

    As to front filter use for protection I wonder whether there is a correlation as to purpose of lens ownership? Persons who use their camera gear as tools don't care since a lens scratch or a coating imperfection is generally not noticeable in the image while even a tiny scratch or coating...

    The last post of yours I read you carried then only two lenses. My lightweight kit also has three Digaron-S lenses-S, with similar focal length, 35 - 60 - 100mm. (A 120 or 135mm Digaron-S never was available.)

    I read somewhere that P1 "IQ" nomenclature does not denote a new sensor but new electronics (eg. Trichromatic IQ4-100 using the sensor from Trichromatic IQ3-100). So they even could call it IQ5-150!

    "P1 is totally elite now" Maybe not the best way to categorize/classify. Have older stepfather, for him Leica is "elite". Hasselblad for people who have to work for a living. PhaseOne even doesn't register.

    This seems to be the critical decision. Not when no longer assembled but when parts are now longer manufactured (ordered to be manufactured).

    I don't want to question your asking price. $20K is a bit on the high side, but otherwise seems reasonable/sensible to me. Yet, demand for P1 DBs really has given way, and is on a downward slope.
