Practical field tethering with MF cameras

Lots of good advice in these posts, and some bitterness at the "real soon now" culture that is so prevalent in the industry. I get that. Pity the poor software developers, though. These are small, struggling companies or internal teams. They are small and struggling because they don't know...

Practical field tethering with MF cameras

'Back in the day, my company made image analysis software. Most of the code was specific to various analytical tasks, but there was a core function set that supported acquisition devices including fast (video type) and slow (high precision) cameras. The general design was that the camera should...

    Fujifilm GFX100 II Teaser Video

I wonder if we could start a lasting thread for IQ4 control apps? Good to know that Cascable works when hard wired. Wi-Fi on a phone drops connection - constantly. I have asked P1 whether Cascable would work via USB C tether to an iphone 15. No one seems to know yet This thread is not the...

    Portraits of Your Gear

All of this was on one shelf, waiting to be used. Hasn't happened in quite a while and probably never will. I swear, if I leave these things alone on a shelf they breed and then stick their little offspring into my drawers. That's where the real mess is.

    Fujifilm GFX100 II Teaser Video

Actually, Cascable (terrible app) does the IQ4 remote trigger thing for me. Someone please get over the compulsion for complicated acquisition apps and make a little wifi box with three rotary knobs (aperture, shutter, ISO) and a button (shutter). That's all it does, and all it needs to do.

    Technical Camera Images

Dave, we seem to be seeing a real advance in lens performance. In the past, I never felt comfortable moving beyond about 12 mm either side of center. Sure, you could, but the resulting image quality was usually worse than using a wider lens. In my limited experience, the Rodenstock 90 is...

    Technical Camera Images

Here is a nice little bit of creepy tree, shot with the IQ4 150 and a Rodenstock lens on the Rm3di. Nothing special until you realise that the creepy bit is a small crop (shown at 40%) of the large image. That image was stitched from four panels, with the Rm3di moved to its full vertical...

    Fujifilm GFX100 II Teaser Video

I watched the entire launch video. OMG it was painful. Robots standing or sitting in careful poses and speaking slowly and clearly. The company people were fine, but most of the non-company participants looked like they desperately wanted to be somewhere (anywhere) else. Dear Fuji, these...

Scanning MF Film with MF Digital System

The more area you scan at one time, the more you lose in precision. If your electronics are capable of resolving 16 bit data (unlikely without cooling or frame averaging), a high quality spot scanner could give you that. A linear array scanner might take that down to 14 bits. An area array...

Controlling geometry with rear standard movements

By the way, I did try this with front and rear standards at vertical. With the requisite front drop (34 mm drop + swing!, amazing lens), loom remained subtle. In my own mind, I will file this away as "nonparallel rear movement creates only subtle looming with a long lens focused at minimum...

Anyone ordered the GFX-Phase1 smart adpater from Kipon?

Just to bring this up to date, I never received an order acknowledgement from Kipon - until today. The adapter has shipped. I won't have my own GFX for a little while, but I will test the adapter as soon as I can.

Controlling geometry with rear standard movements

Seems that I have been unclear about the conditions of my original post. It was just a casual comment on an interesting topic - how rear nonparallel movements compare between LF and MF sensors. I made a quick comparison between front and rear swing in a realistic product-type shot and was...
