    The thing about GetDPI ....

Not a bad idea. And perhaps one thread discussing workshops & phototours. For example, the last two weeks of February I will be in Lone Pine, California. One week for Bruce Barnbaum's Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains Workshop, and the other week for exploring the area around (Death Valley...

    The thing about GetDPI ....

It's a bit of a PhaseOne fan club here, there is no thing as "good enough". On the more serious side, the current IQ4 definitely could be improved as to usability & fluidity of operation, and also some new features would be nice.

    The thing about GetDPI ....

Also long overdue, an iPhone with a quad camera setup. 😀

    The thing about GetDPI ....

You are absolutely right but the last few years felt like watching a glacier move.

    The thing about GetDPI ....

We may have exhausted the topic of discussion of a possible IQ5 or S4. At least with the iPhone you know that there will be always a September.

MFD 2025 – state of the industry and outlook

That's why 4:3 was in many ways the perfect compromise between 3:2 and 4:5!

Yes, this makes sense. Thx for the explanation.

We could have a S4 announcement this afternoon so convincing that most of us just knew we must have it. Or there will never be a S4 because Leica decided that with the existing offerings from HB, Fuji, and P1 there is just no business case in restarting the S line. I wonder what made Sony to...

MFD 2025 – state of the industry and outlook

No smartphone as camera? I would say, boils down to expectations that one associates with the newest and latest offerings. If the expectations are unjustified and unreasonable then there will be always disappointment. In the end, a camera is a mere tool, nothing less but nothing more. If one...

Yes, very good point in favor. All Digaron-Ws easily cover 6x7.

An argument can be made that everything in life is subject to compromises. 😀 If Digarons wouldn't be subject to compromises, for example, we wouldn't have (or need!) to different lines: Digaron-S and Digaron-(S)W.

Not really surprised here. The Fuji TS 30mm and 110mm are of newer design and of more recent manufacture, thereby taking advantage of any improvements in the design and manufacturing process, and probably are also designed such that optical aberrations will be corrected during image processing...

Yes, this is easy to forget. HB stopped investing in their H-system long before it was officially discontinued. And I think so did Leica as to their S system (please correct me if incorrect).

Yes, I can see this argument be made with the XC40 or with the XC23 using the 247MP DB.

Not sure what you mean? In the case of my 4x5" lens kit, the lower limit is set by the shortest focal length lens that still (barely) covers 4x5, that is Schneider 38mm ƒ/5.6 Super-Angulon XL, and the upper limit by the longest focal length lens, Nikon 720mm ƒ/16, that still works with the...

"the forceful affirmation is quite something". Yes, nice way to put. But really not unexpected since Sony did announce a new sensor earlier this year and who else would use such a sensor but P1! https://www.sony-semicon.com/files/62/flyer_industry/IMX811-AAQR_Flyer.pdf

I basically agree with what you say, although you may have overstated your argument in your last sentence. I think most P1 users are far more interested in improvements as to ease of use, more fluidity in the process, and some new features than higher resolution. The 247MP resolution surely will...

MFD 2025 – state of the industry and outlook

Wouldn't make a difference in the analysis since there is a direct relationship between angle of view and focal length: angle of view is inversely proportional to the focal length. Doubling the focal length halves the angle of view, and halving the focal length doubles the angle of view...

For my 4x5" camera kit, I had my focal length spaced by a factor 1.5, i.e. 50%. I felt this being conceptionally equivalent to having one large zoom lens. In many ways I think that a 1.5 spacing is the perfect spacing between prime lenses for a general camera kit. Unfortunately, with digital...

Yes, it's a bit of a soft science. One author even made the argument that for photography, that "something" is not area, but linear dimensions. (I should have mentioned this in my original posting!) Can be easily seen, for example, in looking at the diagonals of common film formats: - 43mm...
