GigaPixel - make small sensors great again

I guess this is the same way people thought about digital vs film, and it’s my turn to be the old man shaking his fist: “It’s not REAL!!”

    Remove RotaSlide Ring from Lens

The biggest issue with this design is it is possible to cross-thread, which might be happening. If you can get one of those jar opener rubberized films or something of the like and hold onto the recessed board area of the lens where the red dot is, you could get a better grip. Maybe slightly...

    Leica SL3 $5000

Dropped immediately to $5k as I was thinking of the price with the M to L mount adapter, which I might sell to the buyer if needed. Out of stock last I checked and a very nice addition. It knows any coded lenses and detects the aperture that’s manually set, which I find elegant.

    Leica SL3 $5000

Recently purchased this from a distinguished member here and enjoyed the few weeks I have had it. Surprised how much I like it compared to a Q3, and even the M11 in many ways. Comes in like new box with unused accessories, outer box. Would buy again. $5,500 $5,000 net. More pics soon, or DM

Priced for immediate sale: ALPA SWA, SK 90, SK 72L

I have a beautiful SWA with a great body and lovingly worn ebony handles that I’d like to sell before a move. Also an ALPA Schneider Digitar 90 in aperture unit, in original box. Finally a hard-to-find and out-of-production Alpa 72L. $3,000 gets you your pick of the above. Deals for combos...

MFD 2025 – state of the industry and outlook

A Pentax K-1 redux in mirrorless mono is the stuff of dreams. Over-engineered ugly little beautiful masterpiece of a camera that would be.

MFD 2025 – state of the industry and outlook

Back to 3:2, it bums me out that this seems to be the reality for an IQ5. But, Paul’s question about resolution I can answer a simple: yes. It would be around 200mp, so 25% better. The one positive is, for those that stitch, 3:2 is less meaningful and would result in greatly increased resolution.

    S4

I’ve used the af adapters for an A7 for M glass, and it worked ok, when it worked. One camera for it all would be really nice. Wonder how the FLE would fare.

🦄 WTT: Alpa Helvetar 28XL or 60XL for Alpa Helvetar 120 ASPH in “helical 25”

Hey, I’ll even throw in the original center filter for the 28XL ;)

How useful is having a second body?

Depends on the situation. I use two bodies now because of hours-long shots that are irreplaceable. I’d do the same for weddings, etc. If you’re speaking more about a non-time-specific shoot and you’re more worried about general availability, I’d echo others in saying to pick up dupes of...

    Sinaron HR Digaron-W 32mm f/4 Lens

Gotta chime in here as there are two points to address: one, stating something is a gift or being fraudulent about the cost is one thing. However, the insured and declared value can in fact be different, although most shippers will argue against it or disallow it. This is because the insured...

Photographing night sky/ aurora from a ship

Noctilux on a gfx100 variant with ibis at 6400 iso with both focus and exposure bracketing and composited in post from the few that made it? Aurora shouldn’t be affected that much from a bit of smearing, so it’s more how to get a foreground shot sharp enough.

Oh dear. Peculiar fabric-like strands on the inside of front and real elements of an SK 120N. Any ideas?

I have lived in humidity most of my life, and saw my first (Canon) kit riddled with it due to leaving it all in a photo backpack. Then I made it worse by scratching the front element due to popped-off lens cap and an errant silica gel packet—silica is hard stuff. Nowadays I always use Pelican...

    Good free photo editing programs

I made a raw editor for the Apple Vision Pro that I’ve been considering porting to Mac/iPhone/iPad since the Pixelmator acquisition, if there’s any interest. I may open-source it within a year or so as well. It has a very cheap subscription model for higher level features but I don’t make much...
