Copal 1 lenses - which of these are good for digital & movements

The 120mm Symmar HM, is a late 20th century design, while the Apo-Lanthar is very late 1940's design, so I would expect that the HM is better. Rod

New camera from Arca Swiss: the Pico

I will be fair and agree. the 30mm lens collar does improve that lens. However it is for one lens. But, I Feel it is not quite as sturdy as using a Pico for similar movement with more freedom on direction of movements as well.

New camera from Arca Swiss: the Pico

The design of the front tilt on the Pico will handle the 138mm with no issues. The beefiness of the front Standard Base and the stiffness of the front gearing of the tilt mechanism should have no issues holding the 138mm. Rod

New camera from Arca Swiss: the Pico

Blue ring lenses are designed to cover the IQ4 (54x40) sensors with a bit more coverage to fully utilize the sweet spot of the projected image. As such, they are best used with GFX, Hasselblad 907x/CFV II, or other 44x33 sensors, and full frame mirrorless cameras. These will yield the most...

New camera from Arca Swiss: the Pico

It might be noted that the issue with short focal lengths, below 50mm, and mirrorless camera bodies, is not an Arca-Swiss issue, but the fundamental lens design with large format lenses having large rear groups, coupled with the FFD of mirrorless body depth. No one can get around this. But I...

New camera from Arca Swiss: the Pico

The control unit will be adding other lenses and will be compatible with M2 for instance. The one down side for Mirrorless users on cameras with 110 boards is the grips of the Mirrorless camera bodies often conflict with the front frame much sooner than on the Pico, when using short lenses. Rod

New camera from Arca Swiss: the Pico

The Pythagorean theorem will tell you the diameter required to cover any format. It is X squared + Y squared = Z and the square root of this total is the diagonal of the sensor size, or minimum image circle to cover your sensor So X = dimension one side Y = dimension other side...

New camera from Arca Swiss: the Pico

The front frame is extremely rigid and the MicroOrbix tilt mechanism is much beefier than the iteration on our other previous cameras which required a different design to allow Rise/Fall. As the front does not rise/Fall and we beefed up the tilt/swing mechanism, I am confident that there should...

Schneider super angulon 47xl and rodenstock apo grandagon 45, which has more even illumination?

The 47mm XL Schneider covers 4x5, while the Schneider 38mm will not(139mm IC) and the 45mm Rodenstock also has a smaller IC than the 47XL schneider. But both the 38mm Schneider and the 35mm Rodenstock were very inconsistent performers and the few I have tested, were quite poor, I thought. I...

Rendering: rodenstock vs schneider vs nikkor

The 55mm Apo-Grandagon was a new design with a sort of hybrid reverse-telephoto overall design, I think. Differing from the earlier Grandagons. It also used some newer glass types, which may have allowed the design to lessen the Central, or 'Mustache', distortion in its projection onto the film.

    WTB: Arca-Swiss F-Metric 6x9

Yes the F series can do it, but the M-line even more so. And all movements are geared on the Monolith.

The great tripod & head thread!

Victor, any time you grab a camera you have a lever which gives you more leverage to move. But when shooting, that does not mean it is is unsafe. Why don't yopu send it to PCW, or to Me, and I will send it to the Factory ofor an inspection and CLA? Let me know if you send and I will get it...

Advice on avoiding or reducing film grain

One other point on Black and white film the longer the film is wet, the grain also will show up more readily. So do the correct times, but do not just leave the film in water and walk away. For scanning, the color negative is best. It has no silver left after processing, to scatter the light...
