    X2D exposure preview

Having grown up shooting film, I never expect what I see in a viewfinder to match what I’ll get! I don’t find that the camera actually adjusts the display to match changes in exposure at all really. Maybe I have it set wrong but any changes I see are usually very subtle - a tiny bit lighter or...

    Medium Format Ultralight Hiking Kit

X2D and one lens. No tripod, rely on ibis. As light as you can go.

How successful have recent Hasselblad product introductions been?

I agree. I took a fairly mundane image of a sunset the other day and then developed it twice. One in Phocus and again from scratch in LRC. Not scientific but I aimed to get the same overall look in each. The colours on the Phocus version were better and with smooth gradients. The LRC version...

How successful have recent Hasselblad product introductions been?

Not only is Ibis not needed on a tripod but Hasselblad specifically state that it should not be used on a tripod.

How successful have recent Hasselblad product introductions been?

I agree. Lenses are cheap though compared to Leica. A 35mm Apo is twice as expensive as a55V and a 50 Noctilux is three times as much! And the Leica ones don’t have shutters in.

How successful have recent Hasselblad product introductions been?

The X2D is a delight to use. Probably the easiest camera to use that I’ve had in the years since my Canon AE1 Program in the 80’s. Oddly everyone complains it’s expensive and that the lenses are expensive when in fact both parts cost less than most Leica equivalents.

    New Phase One Camera Arrives.

Well it looks nice but to be honest, I could buy a pretty comprehensive X2D system that was more portable, more functional and probably 95% as good for less money. You’ve got to have a serious reason to buy this I would say and unless you’re in the top few percent of landscape photographers for...

What third party “dreamy” lens to complement XCD lenses?

Try putting a Zeiss softar filter on one of the V lenses.

    Phase One IQ5 – Sony 247 MPX – 3:2 – will you get it?

I can’t conceive of any reason I would buy such an esoteric tool. It’s not remotely practical for what I shoot, nobody will pay me a single dollar more for the work etc etc. Maybe if I won $40 million on Lotto I might just for the heck of it. Otherwise no. I don’t really even need 102MP!

Leica sure knows how to take the excitement out of owning a new camera

    Sold mine. Bought an X2D.

Ah. Just down the road. We’re out towards Oxford.

    New Hasselblad XCD 20-35/3.2-4.5

There’s a pre owned one available at a dealer in Auckland with only 200 on the shutter count. It’s about NZ$2,250 cheaper than buying a new 25V but of course lacks the manual focus scale for zone focus etc.

    New Hasselblad XCD 20-35/3.2-4.5

Well, just light gathering really. I like shooting wide field Astro and live next to an area classified as an International Dark Sky Reserve.

    New Hasselblad XCD 20-35/3.2-4.5

For me it’s not a lens I’d find especially useful and at about 80% of the cost of a new X2D body, I’d certainly have to feel it was useful before even thinking about paying for it! One wide angle lens will suffice for me at the present time. I just can’t decide whether it should be the 21, the...

Finally found "the" backpack for my IQ4 and Hassy system...

The cost of shipping that to New Zealand is 30% of the cost of the pack!! Maybe I’ll wait until I’m next in the USA.

New Limited Edition from Hasselblad for 'Adventurous Photographers'!

This edition is so far not even listed for sale here in NZ. Maybe ours were the ones given away to influencers…!

New Limited Edition from Hasselblad for 'Adventurous Photographers'!

I wonder if the brown colour rubs off as easily as the black does?

    Differences of XCD 38v?

I always get a bit wary with this sort of thing. In the USA it’s far easier to return goods than it is here in NZ. I’d have to actually prove beyond doubt that the lens was faulty - and even then, the dealer would be quite likely to return it to Sweden for repair before they thought of replacing...
