    Using CFV 100 handheld

I suppose the underlying question is “if you are going to the trouble of running a higher resolution camera, why would you not want to get that resolution out of it?” Yes, there is the MF look, but there is also the narrow depth of field available with lenses available only on more popular...

Seriously considering switch from Sony to the sl 601

The SL 601 is a great walk about camera, or a platform for M lenses, although it lacks IBIS. It would not be my first choice for a studio camera. There are fewer specialty lenses available for l mount, although the likes of the 105mm Sigma macro lens seems to be spectacular. Likewise, you will...

He certainly was someone who kept things in perspective.

Going back from GFX100S to SL2

In what respects? I’d have thought that the GFX files would be more flexible / malleable than those from full frame cameras.

    DXO Pure Raw

Does the result depend on whether a specific camera ~ lens profile is available? How does the price compare with the full fat dxo processor?

    Leica S3 Review -Reddot Forum

At the price, this is a camera that is really only for those that have the lenses that they need and want to upgrade their body. Why would anyone buy into this system over the SL system, the slight difference in image quality notwithstanding.

Irwin Puts Says Farewell to Leica?

I don’t object to perfect lenses. Means that I have to make the picture interesting, though, and not rely on artefacts. M lenses are less perfect than SL lenses, optically, and they don’t do AF, but they are significantly easier to carry and they will last, as they have no electronic parts to rot.

    New place to hang out

[If you upload your pics to Flickr, you can embed them at whatever resolution you choose using the share / bbcode feature. If you just show these pics at this resolution, you may as well have taken them on an iPhone. The Noctilux in particular is not well suited to landscape photography—...

    Getting tired of Diglloyd

(His latest blog explains why he always shoots the same subjects, but not how he manages to make all that gear pay for itself.)

    Getting tired of Diglloyd

Well, whatever it is he is doing, he seems to be surviving. However, whereas, in the past, he used to produce rounded critiques of new products, he now seems to generate only click-bait. To take today's front page at random, the (unreleased) A7R4 is declared useless because it does not offer...

    Leica APO-Telyt-M 135mm f/3.4 Lens On a Leica SL(601)

Yes, but the 90-280mm SL lens then becomes a competitor and the image quality of that lens always surprises me when I see the results. It is, however, a monster, compared with the 135. I have not tried the R lenses, so can’t comment, but it’s hard to see how they could improve on the 90-280mm...

    Leica APO-Telyt-M 135mm f/3.4 Lens On a Leica SL(601)

I think that this must be one of the first lenses where Leica tried to narrow the depth of field. I love the lens, even if it has some imperfections in the CA/LOCA departments relative to the likes of the 90mm SL Summicron, say. But great, if you like to have thin focus planes. So. if you need...

    General thoughts about S1 and/or S1R

As several answers above attest, the main difference is in the lenses. While I have a stash of old Nikkors, they don't play in the same league as the SL lenses, unfortunately, so my £$ goes to Panasonic rather than Nikon. The position would change if I was to use the longer Nikkors, in...

    New Hassy on the way?

Odd. I thought that Sony held back introducing bsi on full frame because it did not offer a big enough improvement relative to the cost increment.

    7 Artisans 28/1.4

The Leica version has some purple fringing wide open, so is not ideal for night shooting or shooting indoors in the presence of windows and other objects with clear bright/dark edges. How does the new contender perform?

    Photo editing with iPad Pro

Thanks for this explanation of how you work. I was intrigued. And then my 20Gb of Adobe storage filled up. I see that you can buy extra storage from Adobe, but that seems poor value for money to me in comparison to picture storage costs from Amazon, Google, Flickr, even Apple, etc. I would...

    Fuji GFX v FX

Interesting. Thanks for all this. I was expecting to hear lots about the magical rendering of MF lenses, low noise high ISO capabilities, etc. But I suppose that it's just like AFX to FX, AFX can be done, but it's much more of a strain to produce a system capable of producing the same...

    Fuji GFX v FX

No doubt a FAQ, but I haven't found a good source: How does the GHX-R (say) compare to 45Mpx FX (such as the Sony or Nikon) 24Mpx FX from the perspective of image quality (slower lenses & shallower depth of field v faster lenses, etc) usabilty (I am less interested in flash compatibility...
