180 MPX Sony sensor 44x33 - massive shift in MFD

I think there will be a small dynamic range penalty based on physics, but the increase in flexibility of 250 MPX for cropping and composition and finer noise structure will compensante for this. The 250 chip with a 40 HR in front will be amazing.

Private Equity Auction Reported as Proceeding for Capture One

Yes digital operators - the assistants in studio workflows handling C1 - are the main audience, on top of the fashion photographer / portrait photographer who runs around with a tablet on fashion shoots showing off the incoming headshots. They are more the PRO market. The amateurs are just...

Private Equity Auction Reported as Proceeding for Capture One

I just stopped upgrading C1 after they introduced the subscription model, but do pay a subscription for Adobe because I cannot be without Photoshop. Photoshop has a whole ecosystem of plugins you cannot use in third party tools like Affinity which may work for simpler image editing tasks. Agree...

Convert PhaseOne 60MP images into Credo 60

This metadata trick (swapping tags) is similar to applying the CMOS credo profiles Leaf made to help Phase One users transition from CCD era to CMOS chips, which is an approximation as part of the look also is based on a different firmware which was in the end taken in from Leaf and then never...

180 MPX Sony sensor 44x33 - massive shift in MFD

Well, looks like X3D will be 180, rather sooner than later! It seems to me that Hasselblad is the biggest customer at this stage, so if this is real, they're already developing the X3D and before you know it boom, the next iteration is out.

180 MPX Sony sensor 44x33 - massive shift in MFD

40 mpx backs have hit 1k, 50 mpx 1.5k, the great 260 is inching up a little towards 4k and beyond, IQ3s are like what 6-7k and IQ4 at 16k-20k EUR. 80 MPX CCD also between 2.5-4k.

180 MPX Sony sensor 44x33 - massive shift in MFD

I mean it’s clear as day now that there will be next gen MF cams and as it was mentioned above the roadmap seems to become clearer now. Phase soon with a revised IQ4 type sensor or 250 MPX and then the crop cam band 1-2 years later with 180 MPX. The new sensor has not yet been announced, so...

Private Equity Auction Reported as Proceeding for Capture One

C1 focused heavily on pros and specifically digital operators in studio workflows. These though are in high competition with novel corporate ai first ad campaign approaches. Don’t see a lot of growth potential with C1 in that subsegment in the sense of double digit yoy market expansion against...

180 MPX Sony sensor 44x33 - massive shift in MFD

Yes agree, in the end the biggest task in creating interesting photography is planning and finding a topic. Logistics, planning, topical focus - that's more important than gear. It is also the most difficult thing to do on the side if one has a busy schedule - real photographic work is much...

180 MPX Sony sensor 44x33 - massive shift in MFD

You can zoom and crop and you can oversample sharpen and reduce. It is useful for image quality and flexibility. I'd take 180 MPX any day of the week on an IBIS MF crop cam. A 40mm HR on a crop sensor with 180 MPX will be amazing, compact and super flexible.

Private Equity Auction Reported as Proceeding for Capture One

Yes, they better get a bit back from their investment ... its been many years and the business model is under threat from free alternatives ... won't be easy to come up with a growth story. It's getting hot in the photo editing market...

180 MPX Sony sensor 44x33 - massive shift in MFD

His point was a lower priced tier of crop chips, I think. For example 45k for 250 MPX and 30k for 180 MPX in crop - but he said he wouldn't spend more than 16k on a crop back which is not likely given it would mean P1 woudl give up its whole premium pricing in return for unknown extra demand...

180 MPX Sony sensor 44x33 - massive shift in MFD

44 x 33 will also be awesome in an S4 with crop modes for 35mm say, 33x33 ... together with the new Noctilux 35 1.2 which is due to come out next Thursday.

180 MPX Sony sensor 44x33 - massive shift in MFD

Yes a sensor + mode at 180 mpx would be awesome!

180 MPX Sony sensor 44x33 - massive shift in MFD

https://www.getdpi.com/forum/index.php?threads/who-needs-more-than-40mp-on-a-mfdb.44142/ Yet, in 2026, more than a decade on, we discuss again. I bet there's many more threads like this, even discussing the jump from 20 to 40?! If they do a 180 MPX crop MF chip everyone will want it!

180 MPX Sony sensor 44x33 - massive shift in MFD

The shift would be massive for the whole market if the crop players sit at 180 MPX. It will also increase the value of the Digarons which all have ample shift with these crops and will arguably make the 40mm HR one of the most flexible options. The 40 is the ultimate flexible lens for crop and...

180 MPX Sony sensor 44x33 - massive shift in MFD

The DR challenges for the 250 MPX are based on the published spec sheet of the aerial sensor from P1 which has a lower DR, at least if I interpreted it right. I also heard about these challenges from people in the know. Whether this is or can be resolved in the photo back variant I don't know...

180 MPX Sony sensor 44x33 - massive shift in MFD

Everyone seems to always say why do we need this, who needs this, MPX don't matter, etc. Frankly, the MPX don't matter argument is the oldest in digital photography. 40 MPX back owners said we don't need 80 MPX, 80 MPX said we don't need 150 MPX. Still, people will want the latest and...

180 MPX Sony sensor 44x33 - massive shift in MFD

Fujirumors is reporting that they're more and more certain a 180 MPX crop sensor is coming. Essentially the 250 MPX sensor tech in 44x33. If this comes, it would initiate a new cycle for: - S4 - X3D / CFV 180 - GFX180 It also means P1 will either have to launch the IQ5 250 finally or the IQ5...
