Thanks Bob Here’s the setup. Easy things: Feather off on the window side with whatever . Get attitude by keeping in close (set up for a 35mm here). Hard things: Paint the wall from darkish on the window side to lightish on the far side and add a little colour. To be improved: Granite...

Fun with the Leica M Monochrom

I’ll go for the new Monochrom because of live-view and ‘focus peaking’. I’m nearly aways shooting at between 0.7 and a meter and have to cover focus shift errors by stopping down. the ‘peaking’ thing should save me about three stops and less noise. Shot again today in very dull weather.

Fun with the Leica M Monochrom

Mitch, more metal here. No lighting technique at all - just a single source box or an umbrella. With the highlight warning barely showing, the Monochrome seems to be able to handle moody exposures. I'm watching what goes on with the white cloth all the time.

Plain softbox, black card on the right, hold the highlights, squeeze the tones towards the middle. Here's another with a single umbrella and a bit more drama.

Fun with the Leica M Monochrom

Answering Segedi Not much lighting at all - just one source, usually an umbrella with a movie lamp, otherwise a home-made 150cm square softbox. I get more feathering control with the umbrella. I set up with a Monochrom and then shoot on sheet-film.
