The Four Hobbies, and Apparent Expertise

There is such a thing as wanting to improve on your photography even just for its own sake, as an art form and endeavor you enjoy. G

    Chaos, threats and bad mood

This resonates with me emotionally. I am not a political scientist. I can't judge so clearly the whys and wherefores of geopolitics. All I can do is recognize that this American presidency/administration, its leader and the cohorts of its supporters, is not what I like or support. It is evil...

The Four Hobbies, and Apparent Expertise

I guess if I was a psychology-hobbyist interested in the flow of topics and ideas and personality types, and all that, this article would seem fascinating: an analytic way of understanding how people develop ideas and thoughts in the context of their hobby endeavors. But I'm not. I like making...

    Would you trade a HB Xcd21 for a Xcd28p?

heh. Well, I won't sell the XCD 21. I'll buy the XCD 28P if there's enough money left in my "toy fund" budget after I pay for the work on my vintage car as well as the registration and insurance for both cars. Not that I consider the 28P to be a toy, but all my camera equipment and car/bicycle...

Fun with Medium Format FILM Images!

Dang, Graham ... Watching your boy and girl grow up is making me feel time is passing too quickly! They'll have a heck of a photo album to look back on when they're in their thirties. Fantastic work! G

    Would you trade a HB Xcd21 for a Xcd28p?

heh. .. all these complaints about the weight of this or that. I fitted the 500CM with 150mm f/4, prism finder, and digital back the other day, took it for a walk. Now that's a bit of weight ... ;) G

    Would you trade a HB Xcd21 for a Xcd28p?

When you say "the speed and handling" I presume you mean the AF focusing speed...? I like the 45P because of its manual focusing helical feel ... so much nicer, more precise than focus by wire. I don't use AF very much. G

    Would you trade a HB Xcd21 for a Xcd28p?

I have the 21mm and won't sell it, it's a wonderful lens. But I am leaning towards also getting a 28P for that handy, compact feel. G

    Hasselblad XCD 35-100E lens

My native lens kit for the Hasselblad 907x/CFVII 50c is the 21/4, 45P/4, and 65/2.8. I had a 90mm for a while and found I didn't use it enough... I do swap my V system longer lenses on occasionally. My thought is to add the 28P/4, for a light, compact carry lens with a wide FoV, and that will be...

    The demise of medium format

I don't see anything about the new and better technologies that prevents me from putting just as much effort into my process as I ever did. I use modern and ancient cameras in much the same way, just taking advantage of the newer technologies' improvements when I've using the newer cameras. My...

last shot before crash ... 😢

Hmm. Welcome to the club of the Metal Men! ;) Hopefully it all heals up well and quickly, and you have near 100% function again. 💪 Good luck! :D G

    The demise of medium format

The process is important to me, the photographer. The photograph is what should be important to the viewer, not the process. G

    The demise of medium format

My reaction is simple: bollocks. • I don't care what format you're using. I care when I see craft and art being applied to making photographs. • Medium format is not some 'exclusive club accessible only to those who qualify'. It's simply a type of camera. • Medium format is not 'only for...

Macro lens choices for a Hasselblad X2DII

I tried with the bellows-mount Macro-Elmar-R 100/4 that came with the bellows, but it was too short to achieve the perspective and framing that I wanted. So I swapped the Elmar-R 180mm f/4 in its stead. It did just the right thing. I'd had some experience with this setup before ... although with...

Macro lens choices for a Hasselblad X2DII

Hope you don't mind ... While we're on the subject of Hasselblad and macro, I saw this yesterday morning and had to capture it: One of the orchids I keep on my dining room table has decided to grace us with a flower spike. These blossoms are about the size of a US quarter (or smaller) across...

The XCD 38v is fabulous !

38mm is certainly a lovely focal length on the 44x33 sensor! It's right in between a 24 and a 28 mm lens in 35FF terms. I haven't used the 38V lens on the 907x, but I've been shooting a bit with the CFVII 50c back fitted to an SWC/M which has the Biogon 38mm f/4.5 ... it's an extremely handy...

    907x optical viewfinder

LOL! I've had it set on "Large" for so long I'd forgotten I could change it! :ROFLMAO: G

    907x optical viewfinder

BTW: I forgot to mention that when using the Hasselblad optical viewfinder, set the AF sensing indicator to the center of the LCD and then the cross-hairs in the center of the optical finder are aligned with that. So you can actually leave the camera in AF mode and target your specific critical...

Macro lens choices for a Hasselblad X2DII

A bit of a digression .. All this talk of macro and the Hasselblad lit a little bulb in my brain. "Hmm," I said, "I have a Leica R to Hasselblad XCD lens mount adapter, and a have a Leitz Focusing Bellows-R with Macro-Elmar 100mm f/4 lens. I wonder if the two bits are compatible?" So I...
