Using these any old way, will not be very accurate. The tubes are matched to the individual lens. You can try it with live view, but, as I said, not as accurate as a calibrated lens setup.
With digital you cannot stop the lens down like one did with film cameras, which increased DOF(depth of focus) as well as DEPTH of Field in your scene.
So a focusing error will not be covered up as easily as it might at F32 or more. So to get the most out of your camera, you should get your lenses mounted and calibrated at the factory.
