Hello Everyone,

I think I've never introduced myself, so please let me fix this shortcoming.

My name is Marco Ristuccia. I'm Italian, computer engineer since ever, and ex professional photographer. I'm based in Berlin, Germany.

At a certain point in my life, around 2009, I quit computer engineering in favour of photography, got the right skills by attending for 3 years a professional photography school in Milan, and pursued pro-photography for some years. It didn't take long to realize that I'm more inclined to follow my personal projects rather than working for clients (either too stressful or too boring 😉). So, having the good fortune to already know a profession I enjoyed more in the end, I decided to go back to computer engineering, fund my personal projects myself and eventually pitch them to media and/or galleries.
I like reportage photography and I don't disdain street photography, but I'm lately really passionate about the new objectivity (ref. Dusseldorf School of Photography). I like its more detached, documentary, almost monumental way of telling stories.

I'm in this forum to especially follow topics about the digital medium format and technical photography. Here I've found a real mine of experience, seriousness and maturity in debating any subjects.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hi Marco,

I greatly enjoy viewing your work. I began my career as a commercial photographer back in the days when 4x5" transparencies were the norm for advertising. It's a tough business, and through teaching, I learned that most students think like photographers first, not business people. However, running a successful photography business requires a strong understanding of business principles. I had a good business, but at the end of each year, the artist in me always felt a bit cheated. Now that I am mostly retired, I find joy in exploring landscapes with my camera, rediscovering the pure pleasure of photography.

Your work is truly inspiring and rekindles my passion for the art. Thank you for sharing your talent; I look forward to seeing more of your beautiful images.

Your journey captures the essence of true artistry—choosing to follow passion over convention and letting creativity lead the way. Photography, when freed from the demands of clients, becomes an exploration of vision and expression, where personal projects carry a depth and authenticity that commercial work often lacks. The ability to step back and see the world through a more detached, documentary lens, as you do, is a powerful way of storytelling.

It’s always inspiring to engage with those who treat photography as a lifelong craft, not just a profession.

Dear Darr, dear Paul,

Thank you very much for your kind words, much appreciated, especially the way you've put it. ;)

Let's say that I've also been a bit of a whimsy, and luckily I was able to afford it. Nevertheless, being able to unfold our own skein is priceless. I must admit however that I got a little stuck starting from the Covid period, but I'm confident It will work out, sooner or later.

Best
Marco
