Beware of Scammers Trying to Log In as YOU!

I have received multiple emails for two-step verification that are not from me trying to log in:

"To complete the login to your account (or to complete two-step verification setup) at The GetDPI Photography Forum, you must enter the following code:"

It is someone trying to log in as me! If you haven't already set up two-step verification, I highly recommend doing so.
Note that Gmail addresses pose a problem for setting this up (I tried until I realized it would not forward via the email server).
If you need a paid private email account, I have used FastMail for over five years without issue.

Does this mean your password has been compromised, Darr ?
No, Bart, it has not been compromised. I just logged out and back in.
I suppose someone or a robot is scanning the members here, looking for a vulnerable account.

Okay - I expected that you only get that 2FA verification after using the correct account and password combination.
After that, that specific device will be trusted for up to 30 days max.

Two-step verification
Two-step verification increases the security of your account by requiring you to provide an additional code to complete the login process. If your password is ever compromised, this verification will help prevent unauthorized access to your account.
That's the reason for me asking about your password being compromised.
Anyhoo, scary it is.
Krgds.

You’re right, Bart. I changed my password right after reading your message. I normally use strong, unique passwords for each login, but somehow someone still managed to get through the first layer. Thankfully, I have two-factor authentication in place.

If you click on your profile at the top of the page, you should see the "Password and Security" section in the menue.
Then it's the first option at, right at the beginning.

Remember a little while back when the database got corrupted and had to be restored ?
Who knows, maybe this was the work of a hacker ...
Or is that too far-fetched ?

Anything’s possible when it comes to stolen data.

Ironically, even companies whose sole job is to protect data seem to get breached these days. A hospital recently contacted me because their third-party data security provider was compromised. As a response, they offered free two-year memberships to a monitoring service that alerts you if your information shows up on the dark web. It really says a lot about the times we’re living in.

I've received similar offers from various companies that had their data bases hacked. It is almost routine now and I don't know if it is because the companies are not employing up to date measures to protect our data or if it is just the hackers getting better at their game.
