Engraved lens caps for Rodenstock lenses

I am skeptical about their claim for the need for metal caps:

"The metal front is not just aesthetics. A flexible lens cap may accidentally touch the front lens when pushed too hard. Especially the HR-Digaron 32’s large front lens could do with better protection."

Metal caps are nice, but the Cambo marketing is misleading.

They tout a benefit of metal caps and a potential weakness of plastic caps, especially in the case of the large 32HR front element. How is this misleading?

I have not had the problem arise yet, because I avoid setting the Rodies down on their front/rear elements. I worried that the convex plastic caps would distort and scratch the elements, as well as rocking too much and not sitting flat. I am hoping CI has a BIG Black Friday sale. 🤭

How many of these lenses have you seen that have been damaged by the manufacturer's plastic lens caps? Is this an actual problem they are solving? I know that is that was a problem at my former company, we would have redesigned the lens caps as that would be really expensive for us.

It does seem a bit crazy that the factory caps on a $13,000 lens may be inadequate.

Tried that before I joined the thread and was not successful . Calumet might be a dealer , but has not listed these caps (yet) .
The original Rodi caps I have for my 28 , 40 , 70 and 90 mm lenses are either too tight or almost fall off when you turn the lens upside down .
I am definitely looking for a better solution .
RODI lenses are extremely good , but their protection caps are very bad .

I would email Cambo. They may be able to sell direct to you.

I replaced those with Kaiser Fototechnik lens caps. Often I used a lens cap one or two (?) mm smaller for a tighter fit.

Kaiser Fototechnik lens caps are available on Amazon. (No association.)

I find that the standard Sensei center pinch plastic caps work fine with Rodi lenses. About $5 at B&H. However, these caps do not attach well when there is a slim filter, or a Kase magnetic filter mount on the front of the lens. Slip on caps work better, then.

A real problem arises if you want to leave a magnetic filter mounted in the holder. I like to do that with a grad ND, for example. The magnetic filter comes off with the slip on cap and can be buried inside the cap. Difficult to extract, especially with deep slip ons like the Polarpro defender.

I would buy caps that slip on over magnetic filters, but which do not grip those filters. They would grip the lens just behind the filter mount. Is there anything like that?

I am still waiting for the day we get a proper silicon protector for the IQ4 (IQ5); I mean all around with port openings.

There was a guy from China selling these at one point I think.

One can never have enough protection for P1 / Rodie gear!

The next step would be to offer different colors. This is how I mark my lenses or, to be more accurate, my lens caps.

Also I wished they would just show the focal length and not that generic lens diagram.

Otherwise, a great idea.

I was wondering about this. I could swear the 138 looked different but I didn’t look that closely. A shame if they didn’t print the actual assembly for the particular lens.

Wouldn’t hurt to have the focal length engraved on the sides somehow for folks like me that have their lenses on the side in a case.
