Front element detaches from Fuji GF 100-200mm

I've owned the lens for two years and it has functioned perfectly. I used the lens a few days ago and when finished, placed the camera and lens (lens shade still attached) on the back seat of my car. It may have been leaning against a camera bag in such a way that some torque was being applied to the front of the lens by the shade. Later when I picked up the camera, the front element and the focus ring were unattached to the lens. No rough treatment that I'm aware of, I was in a hurry so I reattached the element and ring. The lens worked fine and I later examined the lens and everything seems secure, but I am not confident.
Has anyone experienced a similar event or have any insight into this problem?

The other day I read some reports by people with the same issue. Apparently without any reason their lens fell apart just as you described.
No word what might have been the cause. I'd better watch my lens more closely from now on.

Although you seem to have it put back together you can't be sure everything is still properly aligned.
Will you take your lens to Fuji for inspection, Tom ?

Brgds.

Thanks for the link Bart. At least I am not alone, seems to be a rather common event. The focus and centering seem fine, but I worry that next time the lens may fall on hard or dirty ground.

Have you contacted Fuji? If it is still under warranty, it might be good to check. I am pretty sure that is not how the lens is supposed to change focal length.

Hi Will, Not under warranty. I might contact Fuji, as noted in the link Bart posted, this is not a rare problem.
