.. I'll definitely post more pictures -
but you should improve your behavior as well as your pictures!!
Clearly visible in my copy of your post - posted 38 minutes ago - edited 14 minutes ago
Really bad style, my friend!!
The world can't wait! - You should definitely entertain the thought of applying to Magnum ...

Paul, I am very sorry to say, but your image is ...mediocre. Let´s face it, poor framing, generic content, too high key, lens artifacts, out of focus,....

I really DO like your technical contributions to this forum, but I see no point in posting generic snapshots like this one.

Best Regards, Helwin

Well the whole thread is mostly mediocre isn't it?

In this case it was more to share the great morning atmosphere in the mountains. It truly was majestic! That was the point ... and its not out of focus ... its pin sharp.

I've posted many of my private portfolio shots in the past but since the thread is mostly common "backyard quality" pictures, its really not worthwhile to spend any time discriminating and on top you have some less lucid commentators which generally have nothing to add than underwhelming commentary.

I'd suggest you share some of your great photography to overall improve the quality level?

You may be right, most of the content posted in this thread is mediocre.

Regarding my work, I find it pointless to post MF images here only to find them compressed to death.

Snowscapes and digital color photography do not go together well, IMHO.

I feel that we have reached the pinnacle in (alpine) snowscape photography with the works of Gebrüder Wehrli.

But that was more than a hundred years ago.

.. finally, I would be interested to know whether you consider Paul's picture to be
below average
average
or above average.

I personally consider it to be very bad - and it is totally blurry -
no idea why Paul doesn't see that it is totally blurry.

Well I guess "mediocre" is another word for "average"?

Personally I do not mind if an image is blurry or sharp, but Paul´s image is poorly framed, buildings, trees, all cut off... it just looks like a random shot taken from the roadside. Probably is....

None of my business normally, but it was his venomous reaction to your post that made me react.

.. I'm used to Paul's poor photography technique.
We've discussed it many times.
He doesn't see any obvious flaws!
I'd also be interested to know why a photo like this is liked.
He gets rude when you point out mistakes, as you've already experienced.
He puts himself in a better light afterwards, which I find particularly bad.
He says he has the best cameras in the world - so his photos must be the best, he thinks.

But I'm sure a good photographer would have taken better pictures up there with a pinhole camera than he did with his latest equipment.
But if he doesn't listen to any advice, there's no way to help him!!

Yes, there's 0 curation or gatekeeping which people like lookbook take ample advantage of, as you can see.

Your comment shows a complete lack of understanding what this picture was about - it was to convey the atmosphere at that christmas morning - which, again, was the sole purpose. It was from a path going up a mountain side and the sun hat just flooded the valley with light while walking up. I have made many perfectly framed, images, but it is too tiring now to get into a embarrasing discussion with a newbie or post anything; the reason for this is that posting imagery here is essentially useless from a quality perspective is because of people like lookbook (and he has been admonished many times) who drop the contents of their SD card indiscriminately onto the forum on a daily basis. And the image is perfectly sharp, which, if you had any basic understanding of photography is even theoretically evident assuming this is a 40 HR shot at F8 at infinity - seeing that the trees in the front are perfectly sharp.

I am not going to post now closeups of barn windows like I did last year when lookbook commented that it was unsharp, lol.

Maybe you should share some perfectly shot imagery?

Oh, the compression is too bad for your taste. I see. Lol.

Your imagery is outright painful photographically speaking - but you know that. Again, waiting for more mundane contents!

Are you freelancing at a wedding again soon? Some intricate geometric closeups of the buffet table would be nice - maybe you can even sell it via your Flickr!
.. I'm here for my own pleasure -
but you should try to sell your art!!

Try it with your Leica - it will hardly work with the Alpa...

Good try, but maybe your humor wasn't obvious enough.

I'm an administrator on another site where two posters engaged in a similar p**sing contest. Participation by others on that particular thread fell off noticeably. It just takes the oxygen out of the discussion and nothing is ever settled.
