Imagine yourself sitting in one of those chairs, surrounded by a circle of robed judges, pretty intimidating I would think.

Two insect close-ups from my Thursday afternoon local stroll.
1) Assumed this was a type of wasp until ploughing through my 'Guide to the Insects of Britain & Ireland' (Paul D Brock) and was able to identify it as a type of bee. Specifically it is a Gooden's Nomad Bee, Nomada goodeniana.


2) I thought this might be a 'Mission Impossible' to identify but the guide book (and info from a FB Group) point towards one of the Mining Bee's (Andrena species).

Statue on the big market square depicting the source of the name Antwerpen.
It comes from "Hand Werpen" = "Throwing a Hand", a legend where the hero Brabo defeated the giant Antigonus, cut off the giant's hand and threw it in the river Schelde.
