Fun with the Leica M Monochrom

I seem to be ploughing something of a lonely furrow here - and appreciate that people are looking/responding. :)
Left Behind - Another from my recent little sojourn in Dorset.
The Monochroms are a rather specialised tool, are they not? And not priced for everyman. While we enjoy seeing the work of others, some of us aren't in that league, alas.

I’ve been enjoying my M10M, been mainly using it for a personal project to document scenes around our house to show my son what life in quarantine was like at some distant point in the future.

aside from those pics, basically all I’ve got to show is cat pics, and I assume most people don’t want to see those haha. Here’s our cat piper yesterday, M10M and 50mm 0.95 noctilux. Have had the noctilux on loan from my brother the last few months and sadly it goes back to him tonight :(

Here's a book I put together a couple of years back. Almost completely shot with an origianl MM. Click on preview. Then to get full screen click on the two arrows top right just above book.

Have you tried David Farkes LR preset for the MONO M10 . Normally I can do better by building my own but this one looks very good . It'd free at REDDOT forum . I also find that medium contrast lenses like the 35/1.4 asph FLE render better than say the 35/2 asph. (which has stronger overall contrast ). One trick is that David underexposes about 1/2 stop to better spread the highlights . If you start with this as a preset you can dial in the degree off overall contrast without losing highlights or blocking shadows .

I cannot speak directly for the M10 mono, but in general (as Roger implied), all the Leica monocrom models often benefit with lower contrast lenses. For example, the Leica 50mm rigid summicron which has been a favorite with MM1 users.

Good point . The 50 rigid is excellent on the new m10 MONO for that reason . The lenses designed in that time were expected to be used with B&W film . The challenge was avoiding excessive contrast ..blowing highlights and blocking shadows . If you wanted a good negative you wanted medium overall contrast but excellent micro contrast . The next generation V2 lenses were designed for slow speed slide film and you needed the high contrast and strong color saturation ....especially if the slide was your final product .

I am still learning the m10 Mono and at the same time relearning film with an MP and Fuji Acros .....they are different but I think both are terrific .

Roger,
Yes I have tried his preset but prefer how LR Classic applies a tone curve and then I make some adjustments to the usual sliders. As to lower contrast lenses, I have a 1955 5cm Summicron Collapsible and enjoy the results it gives on my M10M. A few examples:-
