Fun with the Leica SL (digital)

I am really enjoying the SL with all my old MF lenses. This one was taken with the NIKON E, 100mm F2.8, taken at F8 and ISO 100. It is a 4 element design that is really cheap, but very sharp. Even F2.8 is sharp edge to edge, and it gets better at F4. It is also really small and light, and therefore easy to take along. This shot is the Vancouver waterfront from the north side looking south.

I was fooling around with the 2x Extender-R yesterday morning before my walk and fitted the Elmar-R 180mm f/4 to it... At just that moment, I saw this hawk alight on the telephone pole out my window and across the parking lot across the street ...

A couple of observations:

  • M mode coupled with AutoISO is the ideal way to use a long lens on this camera hand-held.
  • Anything beyond 180 to 200 mm is pretty hopeless for me to hand-hold and get consistent results ... at least without image stabilization.
