Gear-free photography talk

I was just wondering, are there any blogs/websites out there that are dedicated to non-equipment based photography news, stories, techniques, exhibitions etc? I'd appreciate any links.

Years ago, Art of Photography on Youtube was great, but then he discovered that he got a lot more views and therefore money from youtube by talking about equipment and so the channel went down hill. I think he's trying to restore it to its previous glory. I see a lot less gear reviews on his channel, but it's no longer serious the way it used to be. There's too much fluff.

There is Louisiana channel, which is really good. They have interviews with artists, poets, writers and photographers. It's worth checking it out. It's also on Youtube.

Other than that, there's mostly drivel out there.

Some good suggestions there, thanks. I’m finding the broader creative and art websites a lot more interesting than the ones that only look at photography which I find very limited and constrained to well established styles. I’ve found the Behance network is a great place to look for inspiring work of all kinds.

I can't think of any single site. For me, it's more a matter of finding nuggets hiding amongst a lot of nothing-special. In other words, you have to be your own curator.

Quality of work on Lomography.com varies a lot, but every so often I see a body of work that makes me go "Wow", such as Hodachrome's.

I was recently turned onto a Alex Soth's "Rambling Through Eggleston's Democratic Forest":

And I think there's at least a couple of documentaries on Daido Moriyama available for free streaming. But I also just discovered this one done early in 2021:

Interesting thread. As has been noted, it seems all too often gear driven subjects get the attention of viewers and other subjects take a back seat.

Why buy gear and then not talk about how it helped one be creative . Show your creativity with meaningful images. I will often mention with a downloaded image perhaps the camera/lens combo used, but going on and on about a certain lens is very personal and totally subjective. But what is universal is if an image hits a positive chord with a viewers.

If all one does is talk about gear then it alienates outsiders (mainly non-photographers) who care about the image and do not even think about the gear the photographer used to create it. Time and time again photographer friends who have had exhibitions say not one non-photographer asked which camera or lens was used for a certain image they like. That should be a wake up call to all of us, make images not gear talk.

Not sure why you wouldn’t want to hear about gear…hard to find what you want but searches pertains to Lightroom ps c1 have good content
Also certain photographers have channels like peter coulson

It's not that anyone doesn't want to hear about gear-after all those are our tools. But after having most of the tools we need then taking it to another discussion can be refreshing. I often listen to Podcasts by Brooks Jensen-Lenswork. He often discusses aspects about photography that most often do not include gear talk. Another podcast is that of "We talk Photo" Jack Graham and John Pedersen. They interview some very interesting photographers.

I just like to share images here. I find that the most interesting "discussion." Talking about aesthetics or philosophy is complex because what do I do with that? I have my own goals which are independent from everyone else's.

I find it enjoyable and useful because someone could mention something or make an offhanded remark, which will get me thinking in a different way and that will affect my photography.
