GigaPixel - make small sensors great again

Seriously impressed with what a $99 piece of software can do. I can see why Paul Roark dumped all his gear for an APS-C X100V.

Creating a basic image with Dall-E then used GP8 to uprez 6X.

This is a photo I took on my iPhone 6 a decade ago. Uprezzed 4x.

I guess this is the same way people thought about digital vs film, and it’s my turn to be the old man shaking his fist: “It’s not REAL!!”

Yes, Topaz softwares are very good, but be careful with the cursors !! GigaPixels can lead to an oversmoothing sometimes. But I agree that in some occasions, these softwares can help a lot. I use them sometimes, most often Sharpen AI, as my camera doesn't have IBIS and slow speeds could be harmful. Anyway, they can't replace neither a good MF camera..... nor a good photographer !!

image still needs to be good to begin with. Just have to find the balance between how big you need to print and required resolution to achieve that. But, if you're finding the MF gear starts to get too heavy, a tool like GP8 can make the compromise a little easier.

I am new to the forum, but coming up to digital image processing exactly for this.
I have some (acquired cheap) 12 megapixes nikon dslrs circa '05-08 that were sold for 3-6K at the time, complementing my old 'film-era' lenses.
And I think 'non-critical' hi iso (1000+) photos can be 'beatified' with tools like gigapixel AI. And that' my current thesis :)

I researched open source tools (rawtherapy, dark room, gmic) to see if they offer AI-based denoising, but it does not seem so. So commercial offerings are the only options.

In the future, I think autofocus (including multi-lens concurrent autofocus), image stabilization, and ability to quickly read censor data, color accuracy -- will be key camera features, and censor's noise performance will be relegated to tertiary as accuracy-preserving denoising will be done in post processing.
