Has anyone swapped Arca Swiss quickset device from classic to flip lock or vice versa?

I need to replace mine as assistant broke the flip lock with too much of a force, but I couldn't loosen the screw.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

You will need to heat the screwhead with either a heat gun or hair dryer. The heat gun works better as it'll take forever for a hair dryer (yup I know).

When I swapped out the A/S clamp for a RRS one I used a BBQ lighter to heat the screw. Protected the plate with aluminium foil and just made a small hole in it so the flame could touch the screw head. Only took a minute or so IIRC.

Aha, I'll find a lighter/matches somewhere and light a candle instead!

So what does the heat melt that's in the screw?

The threadlocker that's applied to the screw in the factory (maybe the red variety ? can't remember). If you want to reapply it - always a good idea in use cases like this - I'd use the blue one. Can stop the screw from turning, but the seal can be broken with hand tools. Just don't apply too much.

buy a new one because from how your describing going about fixing the old one it will be finished when you're done. a heat gun is 24.00 at Home Depot that's the right tool, you could also send it off to a specialist along with your assistant.
