Hasselblad look and color with Leica SL3?

As an owner of both systems but not the greatest post processing knowledge (mainly use lightroom nowadays, also habe c1) I reall ylike the SL system, but each time I look at a Hassy x2d file it looks sooo good in regards of color and overall natural look that I just love it. Looks allmost better than reality. 😀
anybody here who also uses both systems and might want to share how to get the sl3 color close to the hassy?
other profiles? Or anything else in the settings?

You cannot easily replicate it with a one-trick "profile". HNCS is nonlinear, it is its own color approach applied in Phocus and each sensor class Hassy cameras use has its own special lookup table system to achieve a unified HNCS look.

Stick with Hassy to get the look.

Sorry for thread drift.

I no longer own a Leica digital camera, but I do watch them closely. I've never been enamored of the SL's "color science" but freely admit that that of the M11 blew me away. Not the same as the Blad's, but no less impressive. Both are almost as good as the original Foveon's. :)

I process my Hassy images in Phocus as minimally as possible, then export as tiffs to C1 where I do most of my PP on the Hassy files. The colors science with the Hassy is terrific for me as I do not need to touch WB even in C1.
As for Leica files, I will probably start to sell off my Leica gear including M11, M11M, SL3, SL3S , Q3 and Q43 since I get more from my Hassy images than ever imagined. The only issue is LONG lenses for the Hassy system, but might try the HC300+H1.7x and the V-H adapter which retains AF. That said I love my 250SA and 350SA as well as my CFE180 images which bring a classic feel to digital images for me.

Hi there. Now the x2d gets even faster and the sl3 still slower as ff co,petition (I use a r3 canon for sports) I also have second thoughts about keeping the SL system. Its great and iq as well, but the hassy kicks even slightly more ( most of the times) and as you say wb and color just dont need much pp If any. Could for lazy people like me.
I would however keep the sl, if I knew there would come somethimg with the speed of a canon nikon sony sports cameras one day, so I could get rid of my canon. The sl ummiu are great, and I like the compact size of the apo summicrons, and the 90280 rendering.

Yes the X2D poses especially a conundrum for prospective SL3 users. The Hassy is too close price-wise and has closed the gap on the AF front even more ... so I think it will eat into SL sales ...

Good luck finding an HC 300 young enough to allow autofocus. I have occasionally been looking for one, and so far, nothing. This holds for all AF capable HC lenses. Either, the crisis at Hasselblad was bigger than assumed, and they sold almost nothing in the last years, or all the younger lenses are still in heavy use on H or X cameras.

A lot of "classic" HC lenses in the used market are rather old (ie late 2000s, early 2010s), and hence have older firmware and as a result won't AF on X cameras when adapted with the focal length reducer adapter . There was a new AF chip introduced at one point in the 2010s and only those lenses which were produced after its introduction can be upgraded to the latest 19.X firmware required for the 0.8x adapter. There are some posts on this here in the forum.

Yep that is correct, I just posted about this today in some other thread, see

The issue is really with the older HC lenses not having sufficient memory for the newer firmware versions (that is what the error message is saying when trying to upgrade an old lens)

Can one still send in HC classic lenses for a shutter replacement or is this not possible anymore?

The HCD24 and HCD28 might be worth an upgrade ...

I don't know, maybe @TechTalk does. The HCD24 was introduced in 2012 and can be upgraded to 19.1.0 firmware version. My HCD28 is from 2008 and it can't be upgraded. I don't know if they did a silent upgrade of shutters/memory before the red-dot versions of the HC/HCD lenses got introduced (all of the red-dot lenses can be upgraded). Red-dot lenses are hard to find on the used market, they only got introduced with the H6D.

There was a a shutter upgrade service at one point I rememeber for 1.5k or so, and I think it also included HC35, HCD28, etc. but I wonder if this is still possible nowadays

So if I understand when buying a used HC lens for use on the X2DII, one must be certain it is a red dot lens? Is the red dot obvious to see?
I know nothing about HC lenses, but have CF, CFE, CFi lenses which MF only and as such was thinking about getting some longer HC glass. This sounds a difficult exercise. Comments welcome. Thanks.

Few comments
  • Yes, the red-dot is clearly visible on the lens. All red-dot lenses are supported by the X system + adapter and support auto-focus (except for the 120mm Macro lens)
  • Older HC/HCD lenses must be upgraded to firmware version 19.1.0 in order to support auto-focus with the X system and adapter
  • Many of the older HC lenses can not be upgraded to version 19.1.0 of the firmware but they can be used on the X with manual focus
  • If a HC lens has already version 18.0 installed, it can be upgraded to 19.1.0
Please read this https://www.hasselblad.com/x-system/accessories/xh-converter-0-8

It's not that complicated I'd say and certainly the HC/HCD lenses can all be used with the X system. It's just a question whether auto-focus is supported or not.

Ralf

So aperture control is unaffected? And, I am not familiar with the X2D, is there a quick way in the EVF to zoom to 100% say with a press of the joystick?

This is one of the key features I love with the SL series - manual focus of M glass is easy the way the live view zoom to 100% is implemented.

Not all shutter speeds seem to be supported when adapting an old H lens. So you may need to use the electronic shutter. Disclaimer: I do not have any first hand experience on the H lenses.

Paul,
Th new X2DII can zoom in 100% like the SL3 for example. Also the 907x/100C zooms in the same way to 100%. I understand on the new X2DII once zoomed in you can move the focus point around with the joystick.
