New Phase One Camera Arrives.

Hi,

Phase One has just released a new camera. The price is $20,290 for the body only and $62,490 for the kit, which includes a back. This strategy of having one body for each camera means that people end up paying significantly more than if they were just buying a lens.

The concept of the "camera system" is to use heavy cropping to adjust the focal length. This approach sacrifices the look and feel of the large sensor and its resolution in exchange for portability.

By owning multiple cameras, one can achieve various focal lengths with less cropping, though this comes at the cost of reduced portability.

The new camera also lacks autofocus, similar to the first model, and does not feature a movable LCD display. This omission is surprising, as a movable display would be ideal for this type of camera.

For those outside the Phase One ecosystem, it may be difficult to understand why one would pay such a high price for this camera instead of opting for the full P1 system. However, as the saying goes, to each their own.

What a letdown, from the heading I thought someone ordered the XC and the ordered XC arrived. 😀

Does anyone knows anyone who bought a XC?

No one ever outed themselves here an an XC owner. Maybe no one has the courage to admit? Who knows.

Search on IG for XC tags.

There's 67 entries under: #phaseonexc

This is what you get – "Lulumiwang Photography" seems to be happy with his XC23.

"PhasePromotionAmbassador" - Could be a promotional loan!

The XC must not necessarily be a bad/doubtful investment/purchase. One might want/need a IQ4, and depending on the trade-in and discount given, could be a sensible purchase!

(Wonder whether the XC lens could also be easily used on other cameras)

I don't know. If I had spent $60k on an XC23 and that's a representative photo that I took with it, I wouldn't be very happy.

... could it be that they still have too much of the ‘old stuff’ in stock that they need to sell
before they launch ‘real new products’?

I tried to be diplomatic and I hope the irony was not too elusive.

The few samples retrievable on the internet from real world users are like that ...

At least they are getting publicity!

Rhetorically one could argue that the XC23 and XC40 are not not too different from Q3-28 and Q3-43!

Only a scumbag like you would post someone else’s intellectual property to ridicule.
Interesting comment – looks to me like you are one?

Firstly, I have not posted it - it is publicly available here:

There's not much more photography out there and someone asked about XC adopters.

Secondly, I'd be great if it is a widely used tool, but there's literally only 67 tagged images on the whole of Instagram with this camera, most of which are promotional pics.

So it goes to show that the adoption of the XC23 is not exactly large on a global basis - it is not an industry standard tool ...

.. I can already see the poor rich people in my mind's eye, happily dragging themselves through the countryside with four full cameras,
because their luxury problem has been taken care of in the most expensive and complicated way possible.
I'm excited to see how much better these photos will be rhetorically : )

One upside is less dust spotting required by never having to change a back or a lens. <g>

It is removable - it literally is a 20k lens that only works with IQ4/5 and that has a trigger button and a huge aluminium block at the bottom.

I wish they made it modular:

+ XC mount
+ XC-Backadapter
+ Grip

XC lenses for 12k
XC back adapter 7k
Grip 1k

That way people can buy XC lenses as they go and cherry on top would have been to make a XC to Cambo adapter so it is compatible with XT and XT XL.

I don't know why, but I have the feeling that it has to do with profit orientation - better sell 20k packages instead of the XC back adapter separately so you can by bundling make more money in case someone wants two XC lenses.

Modular would have made this a lot more enticing - and this is where I call a bit in question the strategic decision making quality in place as I am sure the XC would sell a lot better by doing it that way, outweighing the lost revenue from not selling an adapter in between with each lens.

I had a 903 SWC for a long time and I miss it.
A XC 23 would be nice to have along with my XF.
If I didn't have a family to feed, I'd consider buying one, no joke.
