Scootin’ For The Shot

I posted a new article on my site about how I carry both my Hasselblad digital and film gear through the 35+ mile wildlife refuge using a lightweight scooter. It’s been a surprisingly efficient alternative to carts and heavier e-bikes, and it handles two full systems plus a tripod without complaint. If anyone’s interested in a mobility solution that works well for MF digital and film in the field, here’s the article: Scootin’ For The Shot.

Best to you,
Darr

Thank you for this extremely informative essay. Do you have an estimate of the weight of your scooter?
ChatGPT estimates a weight of 52 lbs. Does that seem accurate?

Wow, Darlene, your article is nothing less than an eye-opener ! I'll dive somewhat deeper but may well have found a solution for my photo hikes ...
Could you share what is the approximate autonomy of your scooter ?

Thank you VERY much !

Hi Stanley,

Thanks so much for your kind words!
I tried putting the scooter on my package scale, but the middle sits higher than the scale. So I resorted to some very scientific tilt-and-weigh methods:
  • Back tire on the scale: 30 lbs
  • Front tire on the scale: 28 lbs
That’s with no cargo and just my helmet in the rear basket.
So… let’s call it 48–50 lbs, give or take a laugh. 😄

Hi Rafael,

Thanks for the question! On a full charge, my scooter is advertised to provide about 20 miles / 32 km of range. I mostly ride on paved paths and designated biking trails, and that’s been more than enough for the short-location hops I make for photography.

I’ve had the scooter for a year now and have never run out of battery while out scooting. The user manual does note that things like body weight and terrain can affect the range. For reference, I’m 5'2" and under 150 lbs, so I fall on the lighter side of their testing variables.

Hope that helps!
