Hi all,

I'm looking for a telephoto option for to pair with my SL2 for a trip later this year. I'm wondering if anyone in the group has tried the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8? Any other alterntive suggestions welcome too.

I already have the Vario-Elmarit SL 24-90. I'm looking for something that has reach in the 200-300mm range for casual wildlife and distant landscapes.

Thanks,

Mike

The Sigma 70–200mm f/2.8 is a solid match for the SL2 and a nice complement to your 24–90. Great image quality and versatility.

That said, if wildlife is a priority, you might find 200mm a bit short a 100–400mm would give you more useful reach into that 300mm range.

Thanks. I have thought about the 100-400mm too. Another option might be the TC-2011 teleconverter. Though comes with a 2 stop light loss. I don't shoot a great deal of wildlife though so I'm thinking 200mm for most shots will be ok.

Totally makes sense if you don’t need long reach most of the time, 200mm will cover a lot of scenarios and keep things lighter. The TC-2011 is a good fallback if you want a bit more reach later, just be mindful of that two-stop loss.

I think the 70–200mm will be a great, versatile choice for your trip.
