I'm not sure if this is appropriate to post on this board, but some members may be interested to see the rare
SK APO Digitar 5.6/120mm ASPH for sale on eBay:
I would think the idea is not to have an eBay reminder every time a lens pops up... people can search for themselves; if not it becomes endless ... and then it is not a FS forum anymore. I often see interesting lenses on eBay ... where to draw the line? I've seen multiple 120 ASPHS last year, sometimes even hidden ones (ie where the seller didn't know and it was 1k-2k or so ...).
I'd suggest this is for members wanting to sell direct to avoid eBay fees. Probably makes sense for less sought after stuff. Like a 72 apo digitar or your oddball Arca bellows.
This said, the forum lost some relevance on intl. lens sales as eBay typically clears at higher prices as it essentially allows one to include the potent 0-VAT /Tariff Asian buyers from select privileged markets whereas here people somehow expect low prices and the audience is more US heavy - ie where the USD has been detached due to its massive loss in value from prior nominal levels and hence prices achievable are now also lower vs. especially Asian prices as some markets there have 0% VAT / tariffs (HK, SGP for SK glass, etc.). This leads to some weird numbers if say a lens in the EU is 6k it now all of a sudden is 8k USD with FX and tariffs although it would have been 6500 before and conversely US domestic prices are ridiculously low if sellers don't adjust for intl. audience.
This means anyone in the US with rare stuff is best off putting it on eBay to reach EU / Asian buyers and adjusting for the USD value loss - ie ask 6k instead of 4.5k.
Case in point is the 4500 USD 60 XL which is basically a gift if you translate it from USD to EUR. It likely would have fetched 6k EUR or more internationally - a collector out of HK would have 0% taxes on import ... I've sold for example multiple high end music things via Reverb not to the US, but to SGP and also some tech cam stuff.
Right now in any case is not a good time to sell rare stuff given all the geopolitical overlay, except if cash is direly needed. If the global threat level hopefully subsides and the USD regains in value, I foresee a lot more trade happening again which should support better achievable prices for sellers than now, which is essentially a buyer's market.
Selling now is like selling your house in a real estate market downturn. Also buying new is not ideal as long as the tariffs are in place and the USD is weak.
Let's hope for economic improvement after the latest war ends ...
