Stack rail setup with Phase One IQ3 100 Digital Back

Can anyone help me use my IQ3 100 digital back on a motorized stack rail? Do I need an adapter to the motor? My sony has a cable that connects from the A7R2 to the motor port. Is there an adapter for the IQ3 100 that would work properly?

Thanks,
Mike

Thank you very much! Phase One support was NOT able to give me any information and I could not find anything via their search engine.
Have you ever been able to perform any stacking yourself using this contraption?
I have attempted to stack with a manual stacking device and I can do approximately 50 frames, but this does not give acceptable results when focusing on an orchid front to the inside of the flower. The front of the flower seems to require tilt to get the entire flower sharp.

When I stack with my Sony A7r2 and my Tochigi Nikkor 90mm f4 MV lens, I usually have to create about 300 images to get good stacks in Helicon Focus.

Best,
Mike

Oh yes, I have the setup with the Novoflex castel micro and it gives absolutely fantastic results when it works.
The problem with the IQ3 is that in a 500 image stack it thinks it has to generate a new black frame after 300 images, which requires manual intervention and ruins the whole stack.
I discussed this in detail with a moron from the Phase One support team but to be honest the guy had no idea
what i was talking about.
Here is a little teaser, a black peppercorn. Of course it looks much better at 2x2m.black pepper-s.jpg

Thanks for the follow-up! Could you please tell me exactly which cables and adapters I require to use the IQ3100 digital back on the Novoflex bellows?
The idiots at Phase One don't know how to do anything except reply "I don't have a clue" and promptly close your support ticket.
Has Phase One fired a lot of employees like Hasselblad has done in the last 10 years? They don't seem to have any real support anymore.
I think they just like to sell software like Apple and Microsoft.

I really would like to get this to work with my APO Machine Vision lenses like my Nikon Rayfact, Linos 105mm, a 2024-11-07 20-04-26 (B,Radius8,Smoothing4)_33pct_small.jpg

If your are US i would suggest getting in touch with the site sponsor, CI, they should be able to help you out:

As for the link to www.photomacrography.net, this thread is from 2017, the original poster perhaps already
dead and 95% of the folks there don´t even know what a Phase One is, so i doupt you would get
"some better answers there".

I will check with them. I purchased my Phase One back from them years ago.

I sent them a text last week and never received a reply.

You like the Novoflex micro step motorized rail? It seems very expensive compared to other motorized rails.

Best,

Mike

We've been in touch with Mike. I don't know what the communication protocol might be for the device Mike is using, but recommended he check with Novoflex, since they have a cabling solution for their stacking device, they might share compatibility. Otherwise, Pocket Wizard does entertain occasional projects where one might need to graft 2 cables together. That's another option.

Regarding the "text message", Mike left a message on our online chat which was unmanned at the time. We don't have the capacity in general to go back and monitor all chat history and follow up on configuration questions, so if no one is responding on the chat, best process is to reach out directly to someone on our staff, and that way there is a certainty of a response.

Very sadly, yes, Robert O’Toole died earlier this year - a great loss.
I would bet you money, however, that you are wrong about your other assertions. The folks on www.photomacrography.net are knowledgable and smart, as well as being friendly and helpful.

The combo of Novoflex motorized rail with the 105 is the benchmark in macro photography and I really want to dive into this next inspired by the Alpa FPS setup from:

Peter whos on Alpa + FPS + 105 + Novoflex. Amazing kit.
