Really the End ?

Due to Covid-19, all of our site sponsors have had to cease support of this site — we understand and wish them well. However, it also means we find ourselves in the position of having to pull the plug on the GetDPI site altogether. We anticipate doing this around June 1. It's been a great run and a lot of fun, but all good things do eventually end. Thank you all for your many years of support.

GetDPI is the only online photo community I participate in on an active (or semi-active) basis. I know it will be a huge loss for many of us here if it ceases to exist. I hope we can find a way to keep it going thru subscriptions or other financial contributions.

Since this is the ONLY online photo community where I feel at home, I would be willing to pay significantly more. I recognize that not everyone would or could. It would be good to have multiple levels of membership, as many organizations/sites that I belong to already do.

If an immediate infusion of funds is needed to keep GetDPI going beyond June 1st, count me in for a significant contribution.

Of course it's not the end of the world, but I would certainly miss this site deeply.
I wonder if Jack, together with all of us, is willing to fight for GetDPI's survival and to make a restart.
What kind of membership levels are required to make it work ?

We now know the real reason that made the owners to pull the plug and it had nothing to do with Covid-19 and/or sponsoring, probably it was just the last push.
Apparently keeping up the combination of expertise, effort and time in order to maintain the site became too much of a burden.

I'm very grateful for what Guy, Bob and Jack (et al) over the years did for this site and its community and what it meant to me.
So unless others are willing to step in - I'd say: it is curtains ...

What an odd way to bring to an end over 10 years of GetDPI - a small one liner at the top of the page - it does feel like the current owners have seen the chance to exit and decided to take it (which is absolutely fine of course) - but maybe an open forum posting would have been a better idea so that if there's someone out there with the time and inclination to carry on this grand old enterprise (or at the very least to make the archive of posts available in perpetuity), they could have initiated a dialogue. Instead, a number of threads have sprung up and the conversation has (naturally) become somewhat diluted already.

It is sad that this was not made public to all members earlier. At least I did not get any emails about it.

I could have helped here out and taken it over with 20 years of experience in photocommunity management.

In case there is interest in the future, contact me. I sent Jack a PM today.
