The cousins of this bird (central NY ruffed grouse) are a bit more cautious and used to be a staple in my Sunday dinners when I was a student subsistence hunter.Grouse, Northern Ontario. SL3 APO 75mm. They tend to be quite approachable.

Did you use Leica Perspective Control to aid composition in camera? Separately, I guess this is the type of subject where the SL3’s multishot mode might be nice after the recent firmware for extra extra large prints.
