X2D Firmware 4.0 Multi shot 4x added

Has anyone downloaded 4.0 yet and tried the MS mode? Reports I have read so far is that Phocus only 3.8.3 works and that's Mac only. Also it seems that tif export from MS in Phocus is broken? As Phocus crashes on export. Can't download where I am, but curious on reports. Also Lr has no support yet.

Speaking plainly, if they could do 4 why not 16, and why not add a cleaning cycle as the X2D has to be the dirtiest camera I have used since Canon 1Ds days.

I also saw that Matt Grayson indicated tiff export crashing.

However, I exported without crashing. I'm using Mac OS 14.6.1 and Phocus 3.8.3.

I would report this to Hasselblad and note your Mac OS (assuming one is using Phocus 3.8.3).

The results are just as great as multi shot has always been. The definition and clarity difference is significant.

Interestingly, I only see Single and Multi as options. But Karl Taylor's video shows an additional 6 shot option- hence the 400mp title.

Why I'm not seeing 6 shot, I don't know. I restarted everything.

I'm on macOS Sequoia 15.1 and just tested Phocus 3.8.3 TIFF export. It exported 10 files with no problems.

I fixed my crashing problem by updating the lens firmware (XCD 90/3.2)
16-bit tiff from Phocus

Single shot

Multi shot

A bunch more detail (look at the vertical scratches on the fallboard and the grain in the wood of the black keys.), but then pianos don't move a lot.

Matt

(Neither trees nor Soup are still enough for Phocus to be willing to process the multi-shots.)

To use this feature do you have to be tethered to Phocus? If so, not so great for field use. Why can't the camera take the images in the field and have Phocus combine them later on in post? as Nikon, Sony and Fuji do?
Thanks

Impressive. 4.0 is not official yet? (Had a look at hasselblad.com)

I see it available at hasselblad.de, both for X2D and 907x-100c.
Of course the one for the 907x only adds support for the new 75V and the X Extension Tube. Installing it now on my 907x-100c...

FIRMWARE 4.0.0 FOR HASSELBLAD X2D 100C (2024.11.07)
Visit the Downloads section on the official website to download the latest firmware file: https://www.hasselblad.com/my-hasselblad/downloads/#162

WHAT’S NEW
  • Added support for the Hasselblad XCD 75P Lens and X Extension Tube (9mm).
  • Supported 4-shot Multi-Shot mode to capture 100MP true full colour images when using Phocus for Mac
(version 3.8.3 or later) for tethered shooting.
Usage: In Phocus, set the type to Multi in Camera settings and then start shooting.
Capture notice: Keep the camera still during capture. Movements of the camera or the presence of moving people or objects in the frame may cause blurring in the merged image or even cause the image merge to fail.

Where is the PC version update? Having to be tethered to use this when all other cameras that have a MS option don’t is bad but forcing one to use a macbookpro when a surface or similar PC could be used in the field is a huge oversight and amazes me. Using a macbookpro with a forced no touch screen environment is a big mistake.

Yes. See above.

True, as you would need to tether to a laptop running Phocus.

I don't know, but you could ask Hasselblad. I've been shooting with multi-shot digital backs from Leaf, Sinar, Imacon, and Hasselblad for over 25 years and they have all required being tethered when used in multi-shot mode. The differences in image detail have been comparable to the sample comparisons posted above.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it evolves with Hasselblad's X System. The initial results seen here look encouraging and I also look forward to seeing more examples from the X2D 100C in 4-shot mode.

Hi,

In cartoons they do, They seem to have a knack for landing in people's heads.

Jokes aside, it looks nice. I have never seen any stabilization-based multishot to get anywhere near the performance of the old Hasselblad backs with high-precision dedicated hardware.
Even so withing the stabilization-based group this looks pretty impressive.

Thanks for sharing.

There isn't one currently.

I'm long past being amazed by any delays in development of anything from any manufacturer, but individuals will have differences in their reactions.
Using a macbookpro with a forced no touch screen environment is a big mistake.
I'm happy to see it arrive in a Hasselblad X System camera and looking forward to further developments. It's great to see that multi-shot development did not end with the H6D-400c MS!

There's a pinned comment under the video...

"Hi All, we were testing the BETA version here and we've just been informed that the current firmware update 4.0.0 only allows the 4 multi-shot which we showed in the video and demonstrates even better performance on 100mp files, the 6 shot 400mp will be available in an updated beta or firmware soon. We were testing and using a beta version for Hasselblad in this video."

Aha, thanks, that's what I figured.

Phocus 3.8.4 is out.
I wasn't able to find any changelog though.
Maybe it fixes the TIFF export issue...

I hope you don't mind if I played a little bit with your example.
Here is your second image where I've applied a high-pass sharpening to the non-multishot image (on the right):

Bildschirmfoto-2024-11-10-um-11.00.01_MR2.jpg

Pretty similar, aren't they?

Moreover, I've noticed strange repetitive patterns/artifacts in the multi-shot image that are not present in the non-multishot one, both original and high-pass sharpened.
Here is a 100% crop of the three versions of the image:
