X2D II today…

Would you take the 35-100 over the combo of the 38V/90V?
Tre,

I'm sorry for the late response. You made a good choice. The 38V and 90V are both excellent lenses and are a good prime alternative to the 35-100E. I'd add the 55V to that prime set. I was an early adopter of the 35-100E and placed my pre-order with Capture Integration on Day 1. Actually before Day 1. If I were traveling and wanted to carry just one lens, the 35-100E is the lens I'd carry. It's just that good. Yes, it's heavy and has a large diameter, but it balances well with the X2D II and can be hand held with IBIS. Good luck with your Hasselblad kit. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your results.

Thanks.

Yeah that was my decision to make. Starting with the 55V and the 35-100 or the 38V/90V combo. I went with the more available combo for now not knowing that the 35-100 would become available yesterday. If I would’ve jumped on the 55V first then I would’ve swallowed my standard most likely and got the 35-100 from Hasselblad based on the available nature.

I was curious about the physical size with a 86mm front ring diameter of the 35-100. I own some cinema lenses so I’m no stranger to using larger lenses… and I’m guessing the lens is similar in size to the Canon 28-70/2 that I considered when I was looking at the RF system seriously. Excellent lens even if large but felt it was a true prime replacement lens.

Hi,
I will say go for it the X2D II if you can afford the lenses. In that sense the 35-100E looks like a winner. If olderish lenses are important to you, you may like to take a look at this video:

Best regards.
Thanks. I actually did watch this video within the last week and it helped to make some lens decisions given that some of the older lenses don’t appear to be in line for AF-C updates.

So my camera, lenses, and accessories came in earlier today (dual charger, two extra batteries, a RRS L-Plate, and a Clever Supply Co. Camera Strap with PD anchors) that kinda matches the shutter button. Charging my three batteries still but I did update the firmware on the camera and lenses. The Hasselblad Camera App seems to be at a minimum as functional as the Leica Camera App which I’m happy about. The older Sony and Lumix apps were hit or miss with connecting to phones/tablets from time to time.

The camera isn’t as big as I thought it might be but not as small as I hoped either. In either case, it’s definitely the most comfortable camera that I’ve held out the box. The camera color is pretty nice as well. It reminds me of the Steel Gray Leica M9 color kind of. So all in all I’m happy with the purchase so far. I still need to setup my custom buttons and settings. I got a OWC Atlas CFE 4.0 1TB card during Black Friday. So I think that I’m all set for now.

the clever supply strap with the PD anchors is great I wanted an adjustable sliding strap with PD anchors, the L bracket plate made by some have the PD holes.

Ya the 86mm filter is a contention but Ive caved in and bought Urth 86mm MAG kit when they dropped the price by 50% on Black Friday so now I have dedicated filter pack. I also have so many filters that I could open a small store ridiculous for my H6D I have a 150 x100mm filter set with filter holder that's the beast compared to 86mm.

Yeah I figured a way to make th PD anchors work with the RRS L-Bracket. I pretty much use the gap at the top center and I use an anchor plate screwed into the bottom tha I can remove as needed for tripod use. I’m considering the Falcam Cage though.

I have the 38v 90v and 135:2.8.........I shoot portraiture 90% of the time and a little bit of landscape (my 135:2.8 is on the X2D II 95% of the time) beautiful portrait lens. I dont like zoom lenses

I have not posted here in recent times, but I came across this thread and felt compelled to add that there is, IMO, a big difference between the X2d and X2dII, the IBIS alone is a big positive factor. As for the XCD 35-100E zoom, good luck finding one. I had been on the B&H waiting list, like many others, and just received an email indicating that they had no idea when the lens would arrive, and that is not an exaggeration. I’ve cancelled my order and will either look elsewhere or do without for the time being.
Hasselblad Thailand have 2...........well they did last week as I was offered one

Agreed! the 135 f2.8 is great on the X2Dii - the stabilization stuff works great with it.

And I also personally don't use Zooms, old habits, old dogs etc. Of course I haven't tested the newer zooms to have an opinion.

The 90V is also a great lens for portraiture but, unless I was trying to keep weight/bulk down, I believe I prefer the 135. Same opinion really of the olde 65 f2.8 vs the 55V f2.5. the newer Vs are ergonomically better and I like having a depth of field scale. The second utility ring just confuses me though...I turn it off...
