Carl Zeiss Jena (DDR- East Germany) develope a legendary wide angle lens for the 4x5 inch that shares the Biogon design that outperfom the existing Schneider / Rodenstock Super Angulon-grandagons. The lens was very large, 2-3 times bigger that the Granadgon, therefore it was build in shutter size 1. Sadly there are only some copies made, the mass production seemed to be too expensive, but in 1993 Doctar ( the new owner of the zeiss jena lens production from Wetzlar) start the production of the new version of the Lamegon with new MC couting. Some copies are sometimes on ebay for very high prices.
Lamegon should beat the sharpest wide angle that were made for 4x5: Biogon 53 mm (6x12 only) and 72 mm and deliver 105° like the grandagon-N. I wonder how this lens, especially with the modern version, would perform on digital backs. Did anybody own this lens?
