PS - I just noticed that the tree leaves in the upper left corner seem to have halos on them. Perhaps from your SilverFX processing?
    HI David
Thanks - much appreciated, as for the halos on the pine trees at the top left - I probably was a little careless with the processing, it'll be back to the drawing board there
This kind of black and white landscape is very much a work in progress, but I'm slowly getting to a method which will produce consistent results.

I guess this is where it started

@ JonoŽs winter church: The color version is great, but the B&W works even better for me. You gotta love Silver Efex Pro! And; what a beautiful old church!

I like both shots, Jono. But prefer the b/w. It just jumps.

Isn't it great Leif . . and a little touch of Vivezza first to get the contrasts right . . . .

here is a simple little thing

Again, it's with the MATE - fine when it's cold and changing lenses is an unpleasant experience!

Jono, I am loving the winter shots you are posting. I also prefer the church in B&W and the second church in the mountains looks like a stunning location.

Two quick ones from today in Geneva, M9 and WATE @ 16mm:

I realize some may not like my angle choice on the first one, but its something I like to do with ultra-wides from time to time. Call it part of my style.

I woke up to about 15cm of fresh snow and -2C temps. Quite a change from Los Angeles!

I've been driving by this seen a few times over the week. Took advantage of the weekend to trudge my way up to (but not over) the electric fence and shoot this scene. M8.2 90 Elmarit 250th at F8. Used the Leica Polarizer and got some lens flare on the upper left. Oh well. Which is preferred color or B/W?

I love this thread, such great images!

Yes, that would be quite a change from LA. Clear, crisp, beautiful images. Nice. The M9 and the WATE were made for each other.

Very nice, Gary. I think I prefer the color version of this one. The color is subtle, and adds some interest, IMHO.

@Lloyd: Thanks, I agree. I am using the WATE quite a bit with the M9.

@Gary: I agree with Lloyd, the color is better. It's almost B&W, but the subtle hint of color really adds to it.

"Balloon Man" and "Don and Joe's Meats"

First time with this lens on the M9. Has noticeable vignetting at f/1. Also had to go get a different diopter to facilitate my focusing. Two that were in focus at Seattle's Pike Place Market. Cheers.

I also prefer the colour (lovely shot) - but I think perhaps the black and white has scope for further work . . . any way, I've sent you a pm about it.

    HI Jeff
    Thank you!
I love the Geneva shots - especially the first one with the odd angle, I think it works really well. The WATE is such a winner with the M9 - none of the old hassles, and one can even fall in love with the frankenfinder

Matt - your balloon man is really fine - excellent
Reynolds - love the Coffee Shop Quartet (if that's what it is!).

Thanks a lot Lloyd! Went on a photo jaunt at 6am yesterday morn into Boston with a couple of buddies. It was 7 degrees with a wind chill of about 5 below!
Saw the kid standing on the cement podium while his friend was getting ready with his P&S. Stood off to the corner & fired when he did his Bruce Lee tribute!

Great results, but a price to pay for sure. How did your battery hold up in the cold?

Osman/Jono/Lloyd/Steve: Thanks for looking and commenting.

Jono: Those guys are fixture in the market. They sing a cappella blues/gospel. By the way, they're standing in front of the very first Starbuck's. Ground zero!

Steve: Those are great. Hope to see more. It's a latest version noct (e60 with built-in hood) that i got about a year ago. First time on the M9. After shooting, I got a different diopter. My focus was off on about 1/2 the shots! It's a bitch getting old. Cheers

Thanks Matt. Thats the version i'd like to get someday. I really wanted to buy Steve Huff's (Great Price too, 5G's!) but he had already traded it in. On Getting Old...,

I concur with the others about this shot. Very Very good.

I wonder if this tree would not be well served by fog? Perhaps a fog shot in Black and White. I believe it would add mystery to go with the wonderful shapes and forms of this object.

I know you were asking shtarka about this, but I thought I would put in my experience here in Switzerland. I spent an entire day shooting in Geneva with an outdoor temperature of 25F. The battery did not last as long as it does when I am in Los Angeles, but it did last about 3/4 of the normal time. This is close to how my Canon would have performed in temperatures like this. I was fine with that performance.

Jono: I can ALMOST fall in love with the frankenfinder! I still have to get used to focusing with one viewfinder and framing with another. When I was out in bright conditions shooting at a distance, I could stop down and focus using scale and hyperfocal principles, but then I would go inside and have to open up in tighter spaces. A bit tricky.

Spent last week at the CES tradeshow in Las Vegas. After the show closed on Sunday afternoon, I headed over to the new City Center hotels (I was staying at the cheapo cheapo Circus Circus).

Here are two shots from the Aria hotel using the M9 and 24 lux.

Thanks, Lloyd. I really like that second one, as well. I seemed to arrive at the perfect time of day for the sun to be streaming in like that.

Here's the Samsung booth at CES. Almost everyone with a camera ended up here at one time or another during the show. Used the M9 and 24 lux again.

Nice shots David. I love my 24 'Lux. It's a great lens, isn't it?

Thanks, Alnitak. It is a great lens. I brought along the 24 lux and 50 lux for this trip. The 50 lux came in handy when I needed extra reach, as with these two shots from Circus Circus.

I arrived early at Monster's CES press conference and grabbed this shot of Noel Lee, the head monster. M9 and 50 lux.

DavidE: Nice work with the 24. I'm with Lloyd. That second shot is very cool. I really like the way the people are silhouetted and the contrast between the interior and the underexposed (but just right) exterior. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.

Thanks, Steve and Matt. You guys have been posting some great photos over the past few weeks. Sorry I haven't been around to comment on them. Matt, that latest one at the Fish Market is top notch.

Here are two from the Casio booth at CES. They were making the point that their new high-speed compact camera can capture action in a way that other cameras cannot. It is impressive... but I don't think I'm ready to scrap my slower M9, just yet.

Used the 24 lux again here. The 24 lux has filled the POV space for me that the 18mm filled with the M8. What an amazing lens!
