Good catch, Matt. The signs area bit opposed, aren't they. Too funny.

Re: The All New More and More Fun With Digital M Images

Steve/Lloyd: Thanks. I didn't notice the signs until i had the shot on the screen. The intent is clear; but, their juxtaposition's funny.

Steve: Too many good lenses! Can't have them all (no that's not true, is it?)

Jklotz: Nice quality and composition on the night scene. It's clear but still has that late night feeling.

sclamb/Lloyd: Nice piano shots. The DOF is wonderful.

sclamb: For some perverse reason, I've been thinking about getting the 24 lux (when they're ever available). I have the 24mm f/2.8. It seems that a big advantage to the 24 lux is more control over DOF, as in your first shot. Low light 's an obvious plus. DavidE's Vegas shots with it have also been very compelling. I'll probably sell the 21 f/2.8 and 24 f/2.8 to fund it,

    Cheers.

Thank you. The 24 Lux is a wonderful lens but not without its own challenges, such as purple fringing wide open (and even visible (just) at f/8) on some VERY high contrast edges. Very easy to correct in LR or C1 though.

For low light pictures where you want to capture the ambience of a scene it is a perfect lens.

    Hi Woody
Lovely to see that someone else loves the WATE
    Matt - great shiny machine
Piano Guys - splendid, but Simon, if you were a Nice Man you wouldn't show pictures like that taken with the 24 'lux

We have a new puppy . . . hopefully Blue won't eat him

I'm training him up in the art of photography
    You could call him the

    Billingham Puppy

    MATE M9

His real name is Caspar, and he is a Berger des Pyrénées, and he is 7 weeks and 2 days old

Puppies are cute I'm afraid! - avoiding corny is the problem (so maybe black and white is good).

Steve: Thanks. I saw that you had more shiny machines on the Nikon pictures thread (sorry about your friend).

Woody: Beautiful sky and fronds. The tonality of the image's perfect.

Jono: Great puppy shots! The B & W's good. I looked up the breed and fortunately it's a relatively large dog (for a city house); so, I can show your photos to my wife. Congratulations on bring Caspar into the family.

    Cheers,

I met this guy while photographing under a bridge. He asked what I was doing, I said I was an artist doing urban landscapes. He went into his bag and gave me a handful of colored magic markers and told me he was not an artist, and I'd probably know what to do with them better than he would. I took his portrait. M9, CV 50mm Nokton.

Thanks Jono. Actually, I've ordered a 50 lux' , and if it ever gets here I'll do a comparison between them. My suspicion is that my Nokton will be for sale afterwards, but I do like it for what it is.

    HI James
. . . . well, I already have a 50 'lux, and it's a lovely lens (chrome). I used to have an E60 Nocti (latest f1 version). I did love it, but always felt uncomfortable with it in dodgy places . . . and I like my K cameras small too.

perhaps you just saved me! (especially as a quick f stop lookup reminded me that f1.1 to f1.4 is less than one stop)

I've had that 50 f/1.5 Nokton (Nocti, Lux, Lux ASPH, too). The f/1.5 Nokton is a very nice lens, especially for the money. I think this is a case where the artist shines through, no matter what lens he uses....very nice portraits, especially the first.

Osman, Lloyd. m driscoll, and shtarka1 - thanks for the kind comment about the fog shot in Victoria. It was absolutely the most dense fog I have ever seen here at home. Outmay, here is the color version. The color temperature off the two big lights did give the scene an eerie glow but in the thick fog, not a lot of light. I was shooting at 1/15th with the 90 cron wide open hoping I could hold it steady enough for a sharp shot.

This is one of those scenes I walk by everyday - the two stunted, gnarled oak trees in the middle of a field next to the college - but the fog and the back lighting made the scene really memorable that morning.

Jono, once Billingham sees those shots they will add a "Berger des Pyrénées" option and include the dog That mate has what I would call a "ton of sharpness."

A focusing exercise. Traded two Leica and one Nikon lens for a new 24 lux today. Rainy outside; so, I shot around the house. Thanks for looking. Cheers.

Thanks for sharing the color version. It is beautiful. It is so beautiful that I could not decide which version was better, so I'll say both. The eeriness apparently was not diminished due to color. A very good shot, all in all.

Puppies are cute I'm afraid! - avoiding corny is the problem (so maybe black and white is good).

    Here are some colour ones:

Jono: The color shots are great. Is Soya the mother? Is that how big the puppies will get? Cheers.

    Hi Matt
yes - she's the mum - rather small, the shot of the Dad gives a better idea - probably about 18" high - not huge, but he certainly won't fit in that Billingham bag!

    all the best

    Hi there Jono,

Caspar (try to pronounce that in French, it sounds lovely) is going to be a very photogenic dog, no doubt ! Btw how are your other dogs welcoming the new boy ?

    Kind regards.

    HI There Bart
The name was a bone of many contentions (trying to please 5 people is not easy!). I think that he'll be a scruffy oik kind of a dog (suits me), if Blue teaches him to swim, then he'll be a wet muddy kind of scruffy oik! (which probably does amount to photogenic - in my book at least).

As for the other dogs - Dixie died in November after 14 healthy years, so she doesn't mind. Blue seemed fine until the puppy pulled his tail, at which point we thought he'd killed it (the noise the puppy made was positively blood curdling ). . . care is required - especially as he is very big, and the puppy isn't!

I hope your returned M9 is now behaving itself!

This is SUPERB! Love it. The portrait itself, the man, his expression, the B&W conversion and your skill. Bravo!
