These were really interesting cows. Holsteins, I believe. They poked their heads through the fence and looked at us like dogs would. I believe cows in Washington state are required to have tags identifying origin, vaccinations, ownership, and medical tests. Cheers, Matt.

I'll comment on all of the recent wonderful images uploaded over the past several days a little later when I have more time.

In the interim, I'd like to post a few images taken at a large immigration rally held in Milwaukee earlier in the day. No matter how you feel about the subject, it's a powerful experience to stand in the middle of the street and document the emotions of people of all ages and sizes as they pass in waves in front of you.

@ Kurt: Another, absolutely fantastic set, turning the mundane into magic. Are you down in parts south in US at the moment, with all of that immigration debate, or is this happening in Wisconsin as well? You have done it, my friend, by the way...I have sold off a couple lenses and have close to enough to afford a f/0.95....any thoughts on whether I should keep or sell my 50 summilux asph?

@ Matt: THat tulip shot is processed and rendered to perfection! I understand if it's a family secret, but I was curious about how you achieved the effect. Almost has a burnt sienna look about it...

@Rayyan: More special captures from you....I love the angles you take, and the diversity of your shots...

    M5-Guy/endre/ashwin: Thank you all!

Ashwin: I'll have to look at the photo and see if i can tell how i processed it. Usually, it's tweak in Lightroom2, little bit of noise reduction in Nik Define 2.0, then to Lightzone or Nik Efex Pro 3.0, or both, then back to Lightroom2, apply very little sharpening in Nik Sharpener Pro 3.0, back to Lightroom2, a couple more tweaks and then export as a 5-6 mb jpeg for posting. It'd be nice if all of the steps were recorded as an action that you could repeat (it is on a computer for Pete's sake!). In Lightroom 2 you can replicate the steps and settings. It's the external processors that create the big unknowns. Pretty much "season to taste" and starts with the WB in Lightroom 2. I, of course, often trash what i just did and start over. Cheers, Matt

Thanks Ashwin, I should mention that I really enjoyed your NFL shots!

I was at ISO640 for most of them, a couple lower. I gambled a bit and shot at 1/60s and tried to track my subject, it was very dark but at least they gave me more lighting for this band than the others of the night which are basically a write off even at ISO2500.

    Cindy/rayyan/Steve/Ashwin: Thank you all!

rayyan: It wasn't film; but, it does sort of have that look. Dark, cloudy day, and i refrained from "brightening" and "sharpening" it to death.

    Cheers, Matt

Steve: Great set of photos! You always seem to capture the subject and get the PP just right! This is why the Noct f/1.0's a classic (in the right hands).

What's an "Allen Brother"? "Stace" takes great photos, and she's smiling. She's a music teacher? No shortage of photogs at the "LuccaBruzzi" wedding! Why are they wearing the bag hats at dick's? Big deal. I can do that trick!

    Cheers, Matt

The Noct is always fun to take out, but nailing focus can be a challenge. My wife will be pleased on your kind compliment about her! She hates being photographed & she's actually a 5th grade science teacher, & the musician was serenading her!
The hats at Dick's had something to do with .....well i cant remember, i had 2 drink's & im a light weight!
Im racking my brain with the "Allen Brother" quote? Did i say that somewhere?
Man...too much gray matter on the brain! Thanks Matt!

More lovely shots - stand outs for me have been Daniel's splendid colour series (especially the last two), and Steve's black and white street series.
But it's too hard to pick out individuals
    all around.

    Just this guy you know

Great use of DOF to isolate the intended focal point.
