Thread: The All New More and More Fun With Digital M Images

Re: The All New More and More Fun w/M9 Images

I was in the garden of my parents' house taking some pictures of the insects on the plants with my M9 and 75mm f/2.5 Summarit. In a couple I got lucky and a butterfly decided to take flight as I released the shutter, so I got two in-flight shots. Pure luck of course.

Each of these is between 1/8 and 1/12 of the full frame.

Some shots I took this morning at Santana Row in San Jose. I punched up the color and contrast in LR2 for fun effect...

The colors out of the M9 are fantastic, and there's plenty of lattitude in the files to push them around.

    Mike,

I'm guessing here, but I take it that this means that you're happy with the lenses on the M9 then?

    Fun butterflies!

Mike, while the M9 images look great I'm especially jealous of those 50 lux ones.

I can't believe my dealer is saying October 1st for delivery..... You guys got to the front of the line quicker than I did.

    HI Simon
You make your own luck - those are great butterfly shots (nice to see someone else a summarit fan as well!)

    Great colour Mike.

back to processing Crete Shots - at the risk of spoiling the fun later on, here's one with the WATE:

Thanks to all posting images in this thread. They're all well done; my resistance is reaching ever lower limits. Must hold out for the sapphire LCD cover.

Jono, what is that white structure in Crete? Good job...the white wall in the forground isn't completely blown and the shadows in the lower right hold detail. Processed in what and what post was done? When and if you get a spare moment, that is.

At a little girl's birthday party. Taken with the now obsolete and uncool M8, 35/1.4 Asph, sometimes bounce flash, sometimes not. Click on the thumbnails to see them big.
There are plenty of good pictures left in the M8.

So sad that you're relegated to using such an archaic means of visual communication. Tragic, really.

Imagine what magic you could make with another means... say one with exactly the same sensor (albeit somewhat larger).

(Very nice stuff, actually... I mean, all things considered. ) (BTW, I'm sticking with that lowly M8 for a while, I think.)

    HI Roger
It's the church of St Stavros between Sfakia and Loutro.
Processed in Aperture, nothing especially done, it was carefully exposed for the white paint, but that's all.

It was around 9am, so before the biggest heat, but still pretty contrasty!

Resistance is useless incidentally (but I'd like a sapphire cover too!).

First feeble attempts at a real world job. 2 hour "Engagement Session". Produced about 230 shots. These people were very lucky as I normally don't do so much for an engagement shoot. But this was my first chance to use the M9 for a real job with limited control over the conditions at the locations the couple wanted shot ... which is par for the course in a lot of my work.

Some shots where they first met, and some in Downtown Royal Oak Michigan where they live. 80 or so will be used in a slide show at the wedding reception. Not a bad experience considering I got the camera a day prior to the shoot.

I am enjoying these M9 photos. I don't know if it is my imagination or a real thing, but I am seeing more texture (for a lack of a better term) than I am used to seeing from my M8 files - especially in the most recent photos from Mike, Jono, and Marc. They just seem to have more depth if that makes any sense.

Thanks Jono I love the Summarits, and I have the 75 and 35. OK, not the fastest lenses out there, but for the money they are sharp as a tack and feel like good quality build.

Nice picture of that Greek church. Given you needed to keep the texture in those bright white walls I guess you had some work to do to bring the sky out in the finished sample.

Mike, what a wonderfully colourful collection of windows and walls. I remember seeing one such wall in Minorca but I couldn't get to photograph it as it was next to a busy dual carriageway and the only quiet time was at 3am.

2 days earlier - in Indianapolis:

I find it quite usefull to use the wider lens as a "shift" lens by cropping the image afterwards. The 18MP help to give some more room for cropping IMO.

Nice series of images. This last one is priceless... best of the bunch.

Hate to burden your sensibilities with shots from the clearly inferior, wholly pedestrian, and now totally outdated M8, but since it's what's at hand, here are a few shots from a walk before work this am. All with my 1964 50 Summicron. All except the last shot were wide open. That one was at f5.6.

Superb colors from this classic lens. Leica lenses seem to last forever and their spirit still kicks you right in the eye.
Needles to say, one doesn't always need the top of the shelve AsphericalNoctiSumiLux stuf...

Lloyd, we want more! (at least every morning)

Beautiful images, Cindy. I love the dreamy, misty look of that first one. And Hollyhocks always make me homesick for my mother's garden from my childhood. Love that little spider's web as well. Very nice.
