Why do we have separate threads for M8 and M9 images? Perhaps we should merge these into a single "Leica M images" thread. The look of M8 and M9 images are extremely similar - in fact I would claim they are indistinguishable even at large web size display. They both have the same creamy smooth outputs that are such a joy to view.

I understand the initial urge to separate out M9 images for those who are looking for samples in order to assess a possible purchase. But now that the initial surge of photos is available, perhaps it makes sense to merge these.

What say you all? I'll also post this over in the M9 thread.

Thanks for the praise, Mike! I totally agree with you that there should be a single fun images thread for Leica M's AND R.

Is it just me, or is the M9 native output a bit more saturated than the M8?

Mike, great captures-nice perspective on the architectural ones.

The 28 cron is my favorite on the M8 as 'walk around' and was tempted by the 24. But with an M9 I get the FOV of a 24 on the M8 with the 28mm!

just saved half the cost of an M9

(love that gear rationatizaqtion, don't you?

I really like that little 35 summarit, but these wheels look too pink to me, I think it's something we'll all have to struggle with until Adobe and Apple release camera specific DNG conversion.
Actually they look 'red-orange' on my screen.

BTW, Jono, as a followup to a issue (maybe not yet with the M9) IS the M9 a 'no filter' machine or not? Using filters would be a bit of a problem if there are no Leica in camera adjustments for it.

I am assuming it is good to go without.

BTW, I have several images from the DMR that show a slight 'magenta' so that isnt the issue. The issue is sharpness-there are many examples shown here that IR spill caused less than sharp pix without filters. Maybe more an interior issue (but in going back is hard to see whether unsharp shots are slightly OOF, motion blur or IR bleed)

All said, I have been pretty happy with M8 sans filter, but M9 promises a bit more than FF, so I will likely do it (think I'm on David's list-he said end October, but who knows- David, keep me posted...)

Took the long way (always my preference, but not always my option) to work this morning. Autumn has finally started, although not at its peak yet. The forecast for up here is for significant snow over the next couple of days. Should be gone in a week or less, but will be interesting for a while.

Snapshots taken with the 50 Cron and the 28 Cron.

21 Elmarit proved to be a good companion to M8 for street photography. This time my subject was ships and boats of all kinds. While watching, please imagine the cries of seagulls and a light breeze carrying the pleasing aroma of the sea

Wonderful colors, Lloyd. It's amazing how quick you have to be this time of year to capture the colors ... they change on a daily basis. One good wind or rain storm and it's wait until next year.

Otumay, you always have the most interesting photos. I haven't been to your part of the world, but you provide such a nice window for those who haven't been there to get a marvelous glimpse into such a rich culture.

Lloyd, You are very lucky to have such beautiful scenery on your way to work. The last one is my favorite...but what is this talk of snow???

Osman, These are all interesting but the first is especially outstanding. I love the composition and your POV.

Kurt, You are putting that Nokton to good use. I especially like the photo of the gauges.

Here's some street photography where the Summilux at f/1.4 and f/2 and ISO 1250 was necessary to get any pictures at all. Yom Kippur in Israel for the not very religious is still the one day when no planes, trucks, or cars move in the skies or on the streets. The first evening of the holiday is the time when kids learn to ride their bikes, and parents gather for an informal block party (but without refreshments, of course). These are all shot with colorful sodium vapor illumination, processed in COne 4.8.3 with default noise corrections.

Thanks Cindy. It's a much better lens than I expected ... it has its quirks, though. I believe I forgot to answer an earlier question ... yes, that is the 35lux ASPH. So have you ventured south yet this year ... the temperatures starting to drop.

    Looks good, Scott.

Very dreary day around here... lots of rain, and significant snow up a little higher. Stuck working, but took a couple of shots with the CV 90/3.5 (cause that's what I had with me ). One sample, wide open:

Out walking before work again this morning. Colors just starting to change here (although these would make you think it's general, these were just a couple of trees that had changed, while most still have not). Couldn't resist the light on the water in the background.

CV 90/3.5 APO Lanthar @ 5.6 in both shots:

Re: The All New More and More Fun w/M9 Images

I found that my M9 was front-focusing with most of my lenses, so I sent it in to DAG for an adjustment. I just got it back this morning, and Don did a great job on it.

Took the 50 lux asph out for a walk-around late this afternoon. The more I use this lens, the more I love it. I could shoot for days with just this one lens.

Lovely light Mike and beautiful captures. Do you like the 50 Asph more than you liked the pre-Asph?

For the type of shots I showed above, yes I like the Asph version better. For portraits, I prefer the pre-asph. The 50 lux pre-asph was a perfect lens on the M8, at an equiv 65mm focal length, it served as a great portrait lens.

Now on the M9, the 50 lux pre-asph has to find a new purpose to serve, as it's a bit wide for portraits. It can do group portrait shots, and can also do some nice artistic shots with the leica glow and soft backgrounds.

By the way, I just picked up another pre-asph 50 lux, so I'll have both versions of the 50 lux. They are both such excellent lenses, and each suited to their own situations, so I decided to keep both of them
