Haha...I was so close to cloning them out and I got lazy. Maybe I will do it as I thought the same thing.

Keep the garbage cans - those guys are leaning against each other chatting, clone 'em out and you destroy a poignant human moment. A crucial part of the composition I'd say.

I agree. Without the cans it's just another redundant post card shot.

    Love it.

The more I look at it, the more I like them. I think Jono is right. They add to the image.

Well, I cloned them out but ended up liking the original better so the cans stay! Thanks guys.

Nice Seattle images. It's fun to see somebody from the opposite side of the country photograph your city. It looks like you got the cook's tour: Pike Place Market, Gaswork's Park, Space Needle from Queen Anne Hill, EMP, under the I-5 Bridge, and all. Beautiful composition and color. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.

The Old Ghost House - M9/35 Cron at F2 and ISO 80

I drive by this old house on a regular basis. Today it looked extra creepy, and with Halloween getting close I decided to get a snap of this house. Processed in CS3 and converted to B&W with Alien Skin Exposure.

Also, found this Super Beetle for sale, and what a screaming deal! The for sale sign SHOULD HAVE READ:

"1973 Super Beetle. Rough shape, lots O rust. Interior shot to hell, bad tires, no heat or A/C, leaky engine, faded paint job and shoddy brakes." Asking price? $2700!

Protect yourself . . it goes like this:

    Wonderful shot . . . taken with 24 'lux
but! it must have been stopped down a bit for the DOF
If I was as good as david I could have taken it with my 24 elmarit.
    the 24 elmarit is much smaller and lighter . . . .
and if I drop it, it won't be quite so bad.

+1. I love the way you combine added vignetting with your B&W images of rather spooky venues to begin with. It really defines a personal style for you.

I am trying this technique with some of my own images but to get the full effect is not trivial. JMHO

    David,
Great shots of Seattle, I see that the weather cooperated for the Kerry Park Seattle skyline on Sunday! One thing I notice after processing my images is the clarity of the M9 vs M8. Something different going on and most importantly, no green blobs.

Three shots with the 50 Lux Asph (f4)...

This morning I sat and watched the sun rise over a strawberry farm in Watsonville, California. This farm is about a mile from the ocean, and gets dense morning fog and clouds that leads to some fantastic morning skies.

The band of white on the ground is plastic that is laid over the soil, and then the strawberry plants are punched into the ground through the plastic (the plastic keeps the soil warm and prevents weeds from growing).

Mike better get yourself up here soon to Oregon I have a 24mm Lux waiting for you from Leica to play with. Actually Leica sent us a M9 a 24 lux, 35 cron and a 90 summarit for the workshop. Too many toys up here we need help to shoot them all.

Re: The All New More and More Fun w/M9 Images

    Robert:

The closest Canon equivalent would be the 16-35L II (at the wide end), which is actually a pretty decent lens on the Canon system (significantly better than the original version).

I don't have the Canon lenses any more (sold them off to get the M9 kit), so I can't do a side-by-side. At f8, the Canon was quite good and I wouldn't have any issues with it, other than in the extreme corners at very wide angles (16mm-18mm). The WATE seems quite sharp to the corners even at 16mm.

The Canon was a bit "iffy" at wider apertures, where I don't have any hesitation to shoot the WATE at wider apertures.

The sweet spot on the Canon lens tended to be between 21-28mm, while not being as good at the edges of the zoom range. So my guess is that the WATE would beat it in a shoot-out in the 16-21 range.

    David:

Wonderful images of Seattle with your M9. Can't wait to get mine. I only had an M8 when I was in Seattle last month. It's gone now and I just have my trusty D-Lux 4 while I wait for my new M9 which is coming any day now...right? Here's a reminder of the Pike Place flowers...an M9 would really do them justice, huh, David? Boy, can't wait, like I said. How's that for pressure, David? LOL

Please note the official "Mike Hatam" frame. So, what do you think of me now?
    Best to all,

All very nice. I particularly like these two. Good detail, but clean enough to hold interest on the main subject. Good work.

Re: The All New More and More Fun w/M9 Images

Was driving down a 2 lane highway today doing 50-60MPH. Saw this scene out of my window, raised my M9 and 35 Cron set to infinity and shot. Cropped about 1.4 inch from the top and bottom as I had to fix the crooked horizon.

I was so shocked to see this quality because of the speed I was driving. In any case, I took about 10 other images out of my window with the same result, but liked this one the best.

I already had someone say I was full of BS so next time I will have my son video me shooting out of my window with my iphone as proof! Ha ha...

    Gotta love the 35 cron.

Pretty impressive, Steve. Just out of curiosity, did you Tone Map that shot? The clouds have a little of that HDR or Tone Mapped look?

    Thanks Lloyd,
To bring out the clouds I used the Shadow/Highlight feature in CS3.

HI Steve - lovely shot . . . but whether you should be shooting when driving is a moot point

However - it seems to me that the shadow / highlight on the clouds has affected the top of the trees, with dark edges around the outside leaves. Perhaps I only notice this because sometimes I'm guilty of it too

It doesn't much matter at web size, but I guess you'd have to use a different strategy for printing.

Love the last of the halloween shots

    Just this guy you know

    Thanks Jono!

Yea, I see what you mean on the trees. Sometimes, I go way overboard in my PP and I always tell myself to tone it down, and I don't! if I were to ever print this, I would take a different, less dramatic route. I must say though, you are the KING of the CLOUDS!
